Chapter 21

One step forward, two steps towards .
And another step elsewhere.
"So... how long do I have until he comes for me?" I ask Ariel.
Ariel, seemingly happy to convey this part, says. "And that, my freaky friend, is the kinda good, kinda bad news. No clue. But... given that he wants you very, very dead... a month? If you keep moving, that is. He doesn't exactly have a magical compass pointing towards you. Well not yet anyway."
I nod. "Fine by me. I need to leave here anyway."
The others continue to stare at me in confusion; Cilla breaking the silence. "Who are we talking to, Nameless? You? Or one of your voices in your head."
"His WHAT?!"
"Oh right, sorry big brother, I forgot to mention that."
I look at the others with a bit of concern; they don't know I'm the same me... that's bad.
I answer, trying to find the words "I'm still the main... Me? The others just let me have a bit more... functionality."
"Not enough to stay decent walking out of the bath." Says the cloaked girl, speaking in a mocking fashion.
"Oh... sorry about that." I say, the incident still burned in my brain.
I shake my head clear of the thought; turning to Ariel, and asking. "Ariel, do you know where Tomoko currently is?"
His face goes pale as he stutters out. "Oh no, just cause one of us Light Gods tries to off you, you're going full dark side!?"
"What? No! I just... I need to find her." I answer, both infuriated at his lack of answers, and a bit reticent to say my reasoning; they're my problem, not his.
"Why?"
"Reasons."
"What reasons?"
"Personal ones."
"Bad personal ones, or good personal ones?"
The bickering went on for what felt like years, Cilla and Gabbie content to just watch a monster and a godling argue.
Ariel eventually gave me an ultimatum. "Look, pal. Tomo and me go back years, ever since she got brought here by the Pantheon. I need to know why you want to find her, and if I like your answer, I'll help. If not..."
The Martyr God's being began to glow with a golden, unmistakably holy light; his voice changing into a cacophony of other, unfamiliar, and far more powerful voices. "Well, I've never had to smite someone before... but there's a first time for everything. Got it?"
The voices in my head yell at me.
"Just tell him you hard headed beast!"
"Bro, what did I say about dying again?!"
"Oh boy, that would be a fun dance~"
I ignore them, unflinching, I say simply. "My reasons are my own."
The light fades, and Ariel exhales. "I... sorry. I just... I don't want to lose any more friends."
Not explaining further, he leaves the home, and vanishes in a flash of light and feathers just outside the door.
"Oh great, now he's gone again." Cilla says, just now finishing whatever it is she was doing with her quill and parchment.
"Oh dear..." Is all Gabbie can manage.
Infuriated, I storm off to an unclaimed bed and flop into it. While comfy as a cloud, it doesn't ward off my building rage. Where did this anger come from; why am I like this all of a sudden?
"Welcome to our good ol' emotional instability, Monster. How does it feel?" Urge asks in jest, the jingle of ice in a filled glass ringing out with his voice.
Awful. I just yelled at the one of the few people who doesn't want me dead.
I feel a prod at my shoulder, lifting my face from a pillow, I see Gabriella poking me... Huh. Logic was right. Up until now, I had no real perception of her appearance with his lack of description.
"Ooh, do describe her! And Cilla too!"
Ugh, not in the mood.
"please?"
...
Fine.
Gabriella looks a lot like her effeminate brother, but her green hair only goes down to her ears, curving around her head like a big bowl. Her figure is, um...
"Aww yeah, now this is a description I can get into." Urge says.
Womanly, she is very... gifted, in terms of... assets. The only one that is of note for non-sexual reasons is her height. While I may be around six'four, she is must be just a few inches shorter; causing her to tower over her 'big' brother. Her attire seems to a simple purple dress that she has modified into a makeshift holy garb, with the draping for her head sitting on the bed she has picked. Over her chest...
"Bazongas..." Urge says.
Is a patchwork lion's head, yellow in coloration.
There, Logic, happy?
"Oh yes. Very."
Ugh... Oh, Gabbie wants something, that's why she's poking me.
"What?" I ask, still agitated from both the argument, and Urge's... well; his namesake.
"I hope you aren't mad at him. He just... he cares about the others he was with a lot. It's why he died for them, after all." Says Gabbie, her voice is kind, caring, and gentle.
"I just need to find her. He knows I wouldn't hurt her." I say, ignoring her question.
She sighs. "He hasn't had much trust for others since... Maxwell."
I blink twice in confusion. "Who?"
"Oh, right. Well..."
Before Gabbie can explain, Cilla rises from her bed, and heads to the bathing chamber as quickly as she can.
"It makes sense for her to want to leave. He was the chosen of Ardor... he betrayed us all, turning to the Dark. His betrayal was just at the end of their journey, but his turn was far before then... It's because of that old bastard that Ariel had to sacrifice himself." The last words accompany a unfitting tone for her lovely voice, one of anger and hate.
"Is he dead?" I ask, hoping that the answer would be yes, and bring an end to the holy woman's contempt.
Instead, it only worsened as she says "No. After he betrayed them, his foul master, Carnachias, swept him away after the **** of demon king. May he rot."
She spits on the ground in disgust, which in and of itself is kind of disgusting.
"Unsanitary" Logic says.
Yeah. Gross.
Another flash of feathers and golden light comes from outside the house, with Ariel returned with a large pack, a variety of clothing other than just trousers, and a satchel that jingles about.
"Look, I know you're not my charge anymore, but I was supposed to give these to you anyway... also, sorry for the whole 'smiting' thing." He says, flopping the assorted objects onto the floor near my bed.
"I apologize as well." I say, reaching out a hand to shake. "I only just now experienced 'anger'. It's a very off putting sensation."
He grasps it as firmly as he can, like a newborn babe, and we shake.
"So... about why I want to find Tomoko."
Finders keepers.
