And The Office Gossip Begins

As it was Lynnette never got the chance to go back to her place, unless she wanted to be late for work. I looked at her and told her how it was going to be. “I’ve been working at the company for ten years and I have never once been even a second late to be at my desk when nine o’clock struck! It’s a forty five minute drive from here to the office. Another five minutes to find a parking space! I’m leaving at seven fifty-five, so I don’t have the luxury of driving you to your place and then to work. Unlike you, my father doesn’t own the company and actually will dock me a full hour when I’m late for work.

“So what am I to do, wear the same clothes I wore yesterday?”

“Well either that or go naked, It’s not up to me either way!” Getting up and going back to my bedroom to pick out a fresh shirt, suit and tie! dressed , I returned to the living room. getting my keys and things that I would need for the day as Lynnette dressed in the same blouse and skirt she wore yesterday. When she returned to the living room, she grabbed her coat and scowled at me as I escorted her to my car then drove her to the office.

Much as usual, when I got off the elevator, only the two ladies I shared Accounts Receivable with looked up at me as I went to my desk. But if the murmurs that passed A. R. were to go by, Lynnette’s appearance was shocking everyone she passed. I snickered when I heard, “Damn look, the wicked witch must have forgot to have her maid do her washing!”

I got down to my work and over two hours passed before it was break time. I went past Lynnette’s office and as usual her blinds were down and closed. Thinking nothing of it, I went into the breakroom and made myself a cup of coffee. I was about to return to my office when Lynnette came into the break room wearing a suit that looked so new that I swore the price tag was still hanging from the left arms of her suitcoat.

She pretended not to see me, but when Miriam from Accounts Payable came in, I decided it was time to have the rumor mill to get the news. I went over to Lynnette, “So she you tonight, we can watch a movie on Netflix!” Then I leaned in and kissed her on her lips.

Lynnette just stared at my audacity then as if the prior night came back to her. She kissed me back, then, “Okay and I’ll drop by the store and get a bottle of white wine and the appropriate meal that goes with it!”

I was about to say something when Miriam shot past me, leaving the door to the breakroom wide open.

Lynnette looked at me and I just smiled at her, “Well the rumor mill should be in full swing. Give about ten minutes and we should be the only thing being talked about by the full staff!”

“But... But...!”

“What, you can’t stop the rumor mill once it gets fully going!”

Looking at the clock on the wall. “But daddy is supposed to be dropping by in the next ten minutes, what will do if he hears the rumors?”

“Well this will be the perfect chance for you to tell daddy about me, won’t it?”
