Chapter 29 by Marcus Dark Marcus Dark

What Happens Next?

And Now A Brief Intermission

Now before we get to the inevitable confrontation let's go over a few things.

There are many reasons... Many petty, juvenile reasons why these rather large men could dislike Aaron but the main ones are that as a Man, Aaron is not only kind and highly intelligent but also compassionate, honest, loyal, and hard working... Traits that are in short supply when it comes to his so-called "Peers" and even many of the adults in his life, His step-father Garrent, being a prime example of course.

While society makes a big show of looking for these qualities in it's citizens it does next to nothing to encourage or cultivate them which makes Aaron stand out even more for possessing them when the average member of society is arrogant, selfish, and convinced of their own superiority because of the advantages instilled in them from birth through genetic manipulation. This is another reason Aaron is looked down upon by those inferior to him while everyone is blessed from birth with incredible levels of strength, beauty, intelligence and immunity to disease and dysfunction because of the highly invasive nature of Aaron's tumor has denied him the gifts that had long been considered a natural part of life for every person born putting him at a significant disadvantage when compared to the other kids who were walking and talking and doing differential calculus weeks after they were born while it took Aaron several years to catch up both physically and mentally with the other kids. That alone is quite an achievement wouldn't you say but as is typical with human nature they could not see the greatness he had achieved or might achieve only the ways he was different by having to struggle to grasp what was effortless to other children his age. A mistake to be sure because while he had had to learn many things for himself including how to walk and do other complex physical tasks the tumor that would virtually cripple him later in life would grant him gifts of his own to balance the scale.

Despite all of his struggles and the scorn of those around him with his mother and sisters being the only ones to really care about his health and well being it is a miracle in and of itself that he has not become a bitter, vindictive individual. Aaron has instead become a person that genuinely cares about others and can see past his own needs and wants in order to help those who need it.

In other words, He is an Alien or might as well be. He is a man set adrift in a world that can only despise him for his differences. I mean, Let's face it the unnaturally pale skin, yellow eyes and darker than black hair don't exactly endear him to a public that views any difference in it's populace as a potential genetic upheaval what with the increasing frequency of superhuman births in spite of all of the governments efforts to control or prevent such births.

There is also the matter of his perceived social status as a Squint and his dating of Zoe Daniels, The School's Head cheerleader and arguably the hottest piece of ass in the entire school. Even in this bizarre and twisted world, A Squint dating a cheerleader was just impossible and yet it was happening which was one more reason for the football team to want to kick his ass on a daily basis.

There indeed are many reasons to hate Aaron not that they needed many or any for that matter.
