Chapter 6
by Cantalope
What's next?
An orgy of fey.
Aster didn't realize how much time was passing till the sun slipped behind the treeline. She sat back within the petals of a lily, sprawled alongside a half dozen fairies, gasping and sweaty. "Shouldn't even be... possible." she giggled.
"Mnh?" Daisy crawled over several moaning bodies, collapsing onto Aster's lap. In answer she leaned down and lapped at the dew collecting on her friends back, eliciting a moan, "Fairies don't sweat, but here we are!" Aster's merriment didn't appear to enthuse Daisy, who mumbled something incoherent and closed her eyes.
"Daisy?" Her partner for the day said nothing, breathing deep, lovely face smiling tiredly upward.
"Lazybones, couldn't even make it to (yawn) sunset."
Despite her tough words, Aster was exhausted. She wasn't even sure she could stand, let alone fly. The flower was bowed slightly from the collective weight of its occupants, "Eh... it'll hold for a night. You." She pointed at the only other fairy who looked even remotely aware of her surroundings, beckoning with a finger. The blue fey struggled to her on wobbly legs, sliding bonelessly down next to Aster, who slid a hand behind her neck and pulled her in for a final make-out session as the sun set.
Turns out the flower wasn't fully up to the task of holding that many fairies through the night. Sometime around when the stars began to wink out, Aster woke to find herself tumbling through the air, unable to get her bearings before falling in a heap with Daisy and the blue fairy from last night. She groaned, her entire body sore from yesterday's "group activities." She grinned through the pain, Worth it.
"Oh... I can barely move...!" Daisy writhed slowly, stretching pitifully on the thick mat of moss they'd landed on. Wait a minute...
"When did all this moss get here?"
The blue fairy rubbed her eyes, propping herself up on her elbows, "It's not moss... Mother preserve, look at this!" Aster looked closely at the green carpet. Sure enough, the tiny shoots popping up from the mud somewhere below weren't moss at all, but an incredibly dense growth of budding plants. Other fairies were taking notice as well, alerted by the commotion, peering over the edges of their flowers.
"This is... this is crazy, what could even do this?"
"I think we might have." Aster exchanged a nervous glance with the blue fairy. They'd been a little distracted yesterday but they had unleashed a crazy amount of ambient magic into the area. The plants must have used it as a food source and now every seed that could sprout, was. The silence was broken only by the gasps of fairies who had just woken up and were late to the party.
"This is bad."
"Very."
"What will the others think?"
"They'll drive us out!"
"Forget the other fairies, what will the other Fey do?"
A collective shudder ran through all the fairies within earshot and panicked babbling rose in a cacophony of frightened voices. This was worse than a few million sprouts abruptly being too crowded, which would have been bad enough. The balance between each **** of nature in the glade was easily upset, this would cause major proble ms for all of them. The nymphs would be furious, supplying water to incompetent growers. The gnomes would be angry over root overcrowding. Even the Sylphs might get involved when the pollen/rot from all this greenery rose into the air.
Aster tried not to panic, tuning out the voices of her sisters as she reasoned her way through the repercussions. No matter which way she looked at it, they were going to have some major explaining to do. The sooner they reached out to the others, the smaller the fallout would be. Hopefully.
"OK LISTEN UP." The fairies quieted as Aster's magically enhanced voice swept over them, gathering round and listening with rapt attention. "We're going to go to each of the elementals," she continued with her normal voice, "explain we lost control of ourselves from outside influence, apologize, and request assistance. Is that clear?"
Murmurs of assent passed through the crowd and their collective relief was palpable. Daisy and the blue fairy gave her encouraging looks, "Alright then, to the stream!" She spread her wings and nearly face-planted, the momentarily forgotten soreness returning with a vengeance.
"...after a quick stretch." She finished lamely, answered by simultaneous groans of agreement and suppressed tittering.
After fashioning a new dress and inventing the exercise of aerobic stretching, Aster led the small kaleidoscope of sapphic fairies to the waters edge, Daisy and the blue fairy by her side.
"By the way, what is your name?"
"Bluebell."
"That's a nice name. Very fitting."
The blue fairy chuckled, "you can just call me Blue."
There was a pause before Aster spoke up again, "Sorry I didn't start with that, yesterday was-"
"Amazing?"
"-very unusual."
The rest of the flight was spent quietly blushing, the stream would be coming into view in short order.
"Oh no..." Aster glanced at Daisy, who pointed to the waters edge. It was lined with flowers Aster had never seen before. They looked like lilies... but also like orchids. Their petals were large and elaborate, varying shades of eye-catching red, purple, and orange. Aster thought they were mushrooms at first, so vitriolic was there coloring. She lighted on the petals of large pinkish flower, peering inside warily. It smelled amazing... like Daisy or Blue but with a thicker musk underlying the sweetness. It made her head swim and her mouth water, her quim dewing at the memory of her primary lovers. Had they created these flowers as well in their reckless abandon?
She turned back, trying to clear her head, giving her companions a dubious look. Daisy's look of worry shifted to horror and Blue leapt towards Aster, who felt something sticky glom onto her leg. Turning, she saw the petals yawning open like a great floral maw, the anthers reaching for her like grasping hands.
