Chapter 4

Transactional
Who does she convict?
An online dating pest
Rachel sometimes used an online dating site: it was the best way to meet new boyfriends, given that she had no interest in the kind of man who would harass strange women in public.
But they weren't without their problems. Most of the men on there were just out to use women for sex. Not that there was anything wrong with casual hookups: on the contrary, Rachel felt like she was telling someone off for slutshaming every other day. But at the moment, this wasn't what she was after, and her profile reflected that, which filtered out most of the timewasters.
She marked herself as looking for a serious relationship, had a main photo of herself in business attire, and even reiterated the point in her description. But that wasn't always enough, and she still had an inbox full of casual sex offers. Still, she didn't get too worked up about it; she was under no illusions about how much dating sites sucked for men too, and knew that they had to send a lot of messages to a lot of supposed women just to get a single non-spam match, so they couldn't spend a huge amount of time reading for each one. She just briefly lamented the fact that her attempts to fix the world through the rulebook hadn't managed to create her feminist utopia yet, clicked delete, and moved on.
But today she received a message from someone who clearly hadn't just copied and pasted it. And she did not like it one bit.
Hey babe, we've gotta meet up sometime. Even if you prefer the business look to being the most beautiful girl out there, those dick-sucking lips are too amazing not to be enjoyed <3
The message was just so clearly objectifying, and the negging was just the icing on the cake. It was like he thought he was entitled to her. This guy was the poster-child for toxic masculinity, and Rachel just couldn't let this stand. Imagine how many other women he must have subjected to this. He had to be stopped, and an easy personality change using the rulebook wasn't justice. He had to be punished.
Rachel replies.
What kind of girl wouldn't share her gift with the world? The night's still early, how about I come round and show you what they can do?
She worries that maybe this is too obvious, but the response is quick. The misogynistic pig is way too credulous.
I love it, business in the boardroom, but not afraid to keep in touch with the slut inside. My address is (address), I'll be ready and waiting for you. Bring a thong, they look great when you're on your knees ;)
Rachel's blood is boiling. This guy is going to get his comeuppance. She gets dressed, grabs her briefcase of supplies, walks out the door, gets in the car, and drives to the address.
