Chapter 10 by Aleolus

Who has come to see her?

An interesting duo...

After Alymarrez stepped out, I walked over to the door to take a peek out and see who was so insistent on getting her attention. Standing out in the main room, I see two figures. First off is an elf, fairly tall (meaning about average human height), with hair as white as snow. However, I can't tell if they're male or female, given their slight build and delicate features!

I don't see any armor or weapons, and the robe seems like one a mage of some kind would wear, but I can't be sure from this distance. Their companion, though, is clearly both a woman and a warrior from one of the northern lands. Fire red hair, leather armor over a modestly feminine figure, very toned arms and legs, and a big sword on her back

Alymarrez walks up to the elf, who has a look of disdainful annoyance on their face, and tells them "The owner's busy right now, what do you want?" as she crosses her arms under her breasts

The elf glares at her, "I refuse to speak to a peon any longer. I already told the airhead behind the counter that we are here to fulfil the owners request by finding the treasure she seeks. If she won't make the time to speak with us on the matter, then perhaps we should just go on our own and keep it all to ourselves!"

Alymarrez raises an eyebrow at that. "Really? And what makes you so certain you will find it without her help, when no one else has?"

The elf smirks at that, "For one with such a mastery over the arcane as I have, a simple treasure hunt like this would be simplicity itself! We came more as a courtesy, to be able to get her what it is she wants from it," they then turn towards the door, flairing their robe out behind them as they did, "But I suppose if the lizard is too busy to see us, then we will just go."

Alymarrez was facing away from us, so I couldn't see her face, but the warriors eyes widened for a second, before Alymarrez shifted back into her previous form. She grabbed the mage by the back of the neck, then picked them up and held them in front of her face. The elf suddenly went as pale as a ghost, and the warrior reached for one of her weapons, before Aly held her other hand up to her, and mentioned "Rule 1," and the other woman slowly released her sword.

Aly held the elf there for a second, before saying "Little bit of advice. One: When in a dragon's lair, always assume they can hear you. Two: Never call us lizards. Got it?" The elf nodded a little frantically, and she dropped them. Then she turned back to the room we were in, "Come on then, I've got three others here for the same thing, and I don't want to have to repeat myself."

I got back to my seat, and a second later the three of them came in. Aly pointed to the last empty chairs, then leaned against the far wall again. "Now then. I don't need to ask what you two are, since you already bragged about being a mage, and your friend is clearly a warrior from the mountains of Daiuri. Seems like a good compliment for these three to me." At that, I look at the warrior. I've heard of the Daiurans, supposedly their fiercest warriors can transform themselves into fearsome bears in the middle of battle!

Alymarrez tosses an old book on the table in front of us all. When I look at her, she explains "I managed to find this doing some exploration of my own. It's the journal of Captain Lightheels. And looking through it, I found this passage," she flips to a page more than halfway through, and then reads out
"Where the land is locked it takes a drink
But be-ware and mind the teeth
Behind the jaws is where the throat meets
The entrance is there if you have light feet
When the dawn breaks its dark as night
But Near the dark night
Lightheel's rest is sunlit bright
,"
She then looks back up at us. "Obviously it's supposed to be a clue to where he hid his treasure. You all are going to solve it, and go get it. In his trove are three things that I want, the rest is yours to do with what you will."

I lean forward and ask "Why not go for it yourself?"

She looks at me, "Ain't got the time. Got a huge batch brewing up for some celebration being held in the noble district, gotta stay close to make sure nothing goes wrong."

Mil nods at that, then asks "And what is it you seek?"

Aly holds up her hand, lifting fingers as she counts, "First, a ruby the size of your fist and shaped like an egg. Second, a golden chalice with sapphires set in the sides. And third, a scepter with a black moonstone set on the top." Mil's eyes darken a little when she mentions the last one, but she stays quiet. Alymarrez looks us over, then continues "That's all I've got for you, so go get to work. I've gotta get back to the bar before Katy breaks something," and she just turns and walks out.

I look over at the two newcomers. "Well, I suppose we should introduce ourselves then, if we're going to be working together on this. I'm Aiden, this is Milaya and Nerissa."

The elf gives me an exasperated look, but answers with "Lyari Bryris. And this is Brunda," she nods at us. Lyari stands up and grabs the journal, "I'd better get to work on this. I'll get it figured out, have no fear."

I nod, and the rest of us stand up as well. "Sounds good. I'm working nights at the Wet Wench until my armor is ready, which should be the day after tomorrow."

Lyari waves their hand dismissively at that, "I should have this figured out long before then, why should we wait for you?"

Nerissa chimes in "Becausse I will not assisst you without him, and the chancce you will need a priesstess is too high to rissk going without."

There is an extended silence while elf glares at catfolk, neither one backing down, before Lyari shrugs, "Can't be helped I guess. Come on, Brunda," and the two of them head out.

What's next for us?
