Chapter 6 by MikeHumsgood
Are you bold enough to take her up on her offer of drinks?
An innocent text
“To hell with it,” you think to yourself. “It isn’t everyday that a young, gorgeous woman offers to buy you a drink!”
You proceed to text Melanie, “Hey Melanie, this is Ryan from earlier today at The Links. I was thinking about your offer and would love to grab a drink with you some time.”
Several minutes pass when you hear the ping of an incoming text message. You open your phone to a message from Melanie that reads, “I’m so glad you texted! Are you free later this evening for a drink?”
You briefly think of all the work that needs to be finished but soon find yourself replying, “I can make time for you,” intentionally including a wonky face emoji.
“Great!” she replies, “Meet me at the Rusty Mug, 8 pm sharp.”
“Wouldn’t miss it for the world,” you text back.
You set your phone down and take your dishes to the sink. As you clean up after lunch, you can’t believe that you have a date for drinks with a gorgeous 20 something year old. Then another thought pops into your mind. “What the hell would Sarah do if she knew I was flirting with Melanie, let alone meeting her for drinks?” The remorse, guilt, whatever you want to call it causes you to begin second guessing your plans.
Just then, you hear another ping from the phone that breaks your current thoughts. You pickup the phone and see a video message from Melanie. You play the message which shows Melanie fresh out of the shower, wrapped in a towel saying, “I can’t wait for tonight!” She ends the message by blowing you a kiss and flashing her brilliant smile.
You consider responding with an equally provocative message but realize you’ve been out of the game far too long and are likely to screw things up. You decide to put the phone down and actually get some of the work done around the house.
What do you work on first?
