Chapter 4 by ThomasMoro ThomasMoro

What happens next?

An inconvenient encounter

Oh, great, thought Liz. How am I going to get home now?

Liz supposed that she could call the BPRD for a ride but she wasn't particularly eager to reveal her predicament to anyone there unless she had to. So she supposed she would have to walk home wearing nothing but shoes and a purse.

She had not thought to bring a communications device with her anyway so she would have to find a pay phone if she wanted to get a ride. And from her location in the alley, she could see no pay phones.

Then she heard a noise behind her.

Liz turned and saw a large husky man wearing blue jeans and a black leather jacket. As she watched, he pulled out a switchblade and said, "Hand over your purse."

"You gotta be kidding me," said Liz.

"I said 'hand over your purse'," said the man.

"You really don't want to do this," said Liz, too upset to bother to cover herself from the man's view. "I've had a bad day and I really don't have time to deal with you right now. Besides, you're starting to get me angry and quite frankly, you wouldn't like me when I'm angry."

"Oh, shut up, you mouthy broad," said the man. "I don't care how you feel. Just hand over the purse."

Liz smiled and tossed her clutch purse over her shoulder. "Go fetch!"

The man frowned. "You really don't want to test my patience, lady. You have no idea how many troublesome broads like you I've put in the hospital."

"Oh, really?" asked Liz. "In that case, running would be a good idea."

The man laughed. "What? You outrun me, naked girl? In those shoes?"

Liz smiled and started to make her hands glow.

"Oh, I don't mean me when I talk about running being a good idea," Liz said. "I'm talking about you."
