An elementalist demonstration

Banson : "I'm sure you've all been able to make fire by now so what's this old man going to teach you?"

The man is in his element.

Banson : "The first thing to learn is that with better technique and experience you lose much less energy to discord and can produce an effect with many times the power."

He pointed a staff into the sky and a pillar of flame rocketed upward as high as you could tell, even dozens of yards away you could feel the harsh heat from the pyre.

Still producing the fire as if it took no effort he continues.

Banson : "Of course it's not just raw power that makes a good elementalist, but control"

The flames break off from his staff but they continue to burn in the sky, the line had reformed into a ball and was now taking the shape of a mighty dragon.

Banson : "And don't forget combining the elements!"

He pointed his staff at the dragon which raised it's head as if to roar but instead seemed to spit tendrils of lightning into the sky. The thunder that followed was deafening. The man then slammed his staff into the ground an the dragon shimmered as it faded into black smoke.

Banson : "As I said before, elemental magic has the most straightforward destructive potential of all schools of magic. Here we will learn how to hone and control that destructive potential. But we will also be able to conjure up rain to put out fires, summon gusts of wind to fly with a little help from gliders and many other handy tricks."

He had certainly gotten the attention of the first years.

Banson : "Now I also said this is the most common specialty. There are many more of you then there are of me. I'll be holding class every day but you will not be. You will break into groups of ten and your group will be assigned one day a week to work with me directly and another day to independently practice. Once you've found your group and given me a list of names you are free go to lunch and enjoy the rest of this lovely day."

With that, all the casters started looking around, sizing each other up. You, Amber and Plano exchanged a glance that communicated you'd be sticking together, Plano waved at another group of 3 boys he must know who wondered over and introduced themselves as Cory, Gick, and Fink. They seemed Friendly enough and you looked forward to learning about them in the future. As people gradually grouped up the six of you were spotted by a group of four, two boys and two girls that themselves seemed to have just met each other. They all seemed the shy sort and just wanted to find a group and get it over with. You could empathize with that and invited them over. They volunteered their names as Brand, Rigsby, Greta and Penny.

With your ten found you all make your way up to Banson.

Banson : "Excellent, I'll get this to Mrs. Gray and Mr. Block. They'll handle scheduling your future sessions, I look forward to working with you all."

He seemed to be looking at you in particular with that last statement.
