Chapter 43

What's on the Other Side of the Door?
An Extremely Irate Looking Blonde
Unlike the sharp ::CLANG:: the vault door closed with, it opened with an eerie, slow creaking noise. In a horror movie, this scenario would not bode well for the protagonists. Surely there would be a ax-wielding maniac on the other side of the door. Or behind us!
But this is no horror movie. This is real life. Or at least the amazing version of reality that my life had become. That being said, what awaited us on the other side of the opening door wasn't exactly a welcoming sight.
Lacy had said that the bank manager had been called in from somewhere else to free us from self-imposed imprisonment. And she definitely didn't look happy about it. The stern glare directed at my bank vault buddy was almost enough to forestall me from running my eyes up and down her body. Almost
And I'll say it now, I'm glad I took the chance. Despite the scowl the bank manager was gorgeous. Almost a foot taller than Lacy, and voluptuous as all get out. Her long blonde hair cascaded down her shoulders, showcasing her generous, very generous cleavage.
"I can't believe it was you who got themselves locked in the vault Stone. Tommy, or Brenda? Sure. Hell, Gary got himself locked in the bathroom last week. Normally you're one of the most..." The blonde manager's rant broke mid-stride, her nostrils flaring as she scented the air. "Is that...lavender? Why does the vault smell like lavender?" She asked as she tried to stare into Lacy's soul." For her part, Lacy was doing her best impression of a tomato, her face blushing bright red. Clearly, this is a woman who would not fare well under interrogation.
"Heh, just be glad it does smell like lavender." I chuckled, trying to pull the manager's attention off Lacy before she burst into flames. "I grabbed a breakfast burrito at Manny's, down the street. Let's just say when the vault door slammed home, I may have done a bit of crop dusting."
The manager face shifted to one of bemused confusion.
"Smoke screening?"
A raised eyebrow suggested we still weren't on the same page.
"Barking spiders? Stepped on a duck?"
Still nothing.
"Farted. I farted. Fortunately, Ms. Stone found some air freshener in the vault. That was lucky, wasn't it...Mrs...?"
"Ms., actually. Ms. Atwater. Beth Atwater."
"Pleasure to meet you Ms. Atwater. I'm Mike Cassidy Thank you for coming to let us out of there. And thank you, Ms. Stone. Your professional demeanor was truly a calming **** in there. Now, if there's nothing else we need to attend to, I need to get back to work." Free of the confines of the vault, my phone was pinging in as messages were coming in.
"I think we're all set, Mr. Cassidy." Lacy started. "We took care of all the paperwork before, I think we're good to..."
"Are you sure you both have all your belongings?" Ms. Atwater interrupted. "I'd hate for either of you to realize later that you've forgotten something..." The buxom blonde trailed off, as Lacy and I followed her gaze into the vault.
"Meep!" That was the all the noise Lacy seemed to be able to make. On the floor of the vault lay her black lacy bra. It would seem in our rush to get dressed, something was missed.
Shit, I had to think fast. "Ah, yes. Thank you. I almost left that in my safety deposit box. Sentimental reasons, you know. That bra meant a lot to me growing up. But, I...decided I didn't want to leave it behind." Stepping quickly back into the vault, I retrieved the garment and pocketed it. As I moved to exit the vault again I could tell that Ms. Atwater was torn between professional discretion and a burning desire to know what was going on. I opted not to give her the time to pick a winning side.
"Thank you both, but I need to get back to work. Have a great day!"
Making my escape, I looked down at my phone as I stepped outside. Holy shit, I'm blowing up...
What'd I Miss?
