Chapter 41 by zewesman zewesman

Does John find the twins in time?

An Abominable Situation

“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!” a blood curdling scream echoed through the streets of the abandoned city. The echoing of the scream made it impossible to determine its location for sure, but John was certain it was one of the twins, most likely Miho if he had to venture a guess. The scream caused John’s anger to once again push to the forefront of his thoughts, the anger giving him the power to speed up his efforts to reach the twins. The adrenaline flowed through his veins, causing his muscles to work overtime, giving him far greater speed than ever before. The adrenaline also seemed to slow down time despite the increased speed he had also received. He was able to process his surroundings a lot better than before. It was at that moment he realized all the zombies were gone. John stopped running and took in his surroundings. He knew he was on the right track back to the girls because he saw damage from his fighting with the zombies earlier. There was a car that had been nearly destroyed by his sword slashing it and zombies being rammed into it. But now there were none. No corpses, no moans or groans of zombies that was heard when John powered his way through this street earlier. The voice mentioned wanting to test out his new creations, so did that mean he removed the zombies? Can he remove zombies from my barrier? Wait no, he said it was his barrier! But if that is true, how did I end up in it? I can’t think about that now, I have to find the twins and help them! John quickly processed before continuing his trek back to the twins. Just a few more blocks! I’m almost there, hold on girls! John pepped himself up as he made his way to the girls’ resting location.

“Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!” he heard screamed out. The voice was definitely Miho’s; a small smirk on John’s face formed as his earlier guess was clearly correct. John turned the corner and saw what Miho was screaming about. A creature of about 8 feet was slowly advancing on the girls. The creature was clearly stitched together from various body parts, as shown by the stitch marks all over its body. Its flesh varied from pale to gray, with the black thread sticking out all over the creature’s body. It had three arms, two where they would normally be found and a smaller, child-looking arm protruding from the right shoulder blade. The shoulder arm carried a cleaver while the left hand held onto a meathook with a chain attached to it while the right hand held an axe. The chain dragged along the ground but was apparently tied to the creature’s forearm John assumed in case it lost the hook or it was knocked out of its hand. The creature’s stomach was torn open; its guts half hanging out. The ribs were abnormally sharp; John assumed they were sharpened for impaling onto enemies that got too close. The creature had two big legs, indicating that it would be able to stand up to most shoving matches but would lack any real speed.

“Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!” was all the creature said as it lumbered towards the girls, whom John made his way over to reinforce their position.

“Are you two alright?!” he quickly asked while giving them a quick scan to make sure.

“Yes, we are fine,” Mikuru calmly replied to John, with a tinge of anger in her voice. John knew he’d have to address that at a less dangerous time.

“What was that scream I heard earlier?”

“Ooooooh. That was me! I got caught off guard when the first one exploded!” Miho informed John while using her hands to gesture what John assumed she thought an explosion looked like. It wasn’t.

“Wait, so they explode?” questioned John, now a bit more worried as the creature slowly moved its way towards them.

“Yes, but that one’s stomach was closed, this one has an open stomach.”

“Yeah, that’s true. So apparently this thing comes in varieties. That’s just fucking dandy,” John said before letting a sigh escape his lips. He brought his sword up in an attack position; the twins saw and followed suit. John decided to cast a quick Observe on the creature.

Abomination, level 23
1500/1500 HP
This abomination was stitched together using various parts of the people of this city. It moves slowly and thinks slowly but is capable of taking hits while hitting like a truck. Each arm has a weapon and knows how to use it. Caution: Some variations are filled with various gases that can explode or poison people in their radius

“Well shit. Observe says that some of these abominations, as they’re called, can have various gases in them that can explode or poison people. But I’m guessing this one has no gas. It is level 23 though, so be careful!” John informed the girls as he ran towards the abomination. Mikuru was on his right flank while Miho used her speed to get ahead of both of them and behind the creature before it even noticed she was there. Miho let loose a barrage of wind blasts that rocked the creature back and forth while it turned to focus on Miho. The abomination began to twirl its meat hook as it lined up the shot for Miho and threw it at her. Unluckily for the abomination, Miho used her wind powers to blow the meat hook right back at it; and had the meat hook wrap around the arms of the creature. This left the creature as easy pickings for John and Mikuru, who did a dual strike attack on the abomination’s back, with John slashing his sword on its back in an X fashion before Mikuru launched a large rock at the weakened skin, which tore through the mark and came out through the open stomach. The rock got caught on the chains and dragged the abomination to the ground, preventing it from moving. John walked up to the creature and chopped off its head, ending its threat.

“Hehehehe. Silly abomination, throwing weapons at me is stupid!” Miho was quite happy with herself at countering such a simple attack.

“Well, I don’t think the creature knew not to use that meat hook against a wind magic user like you,” John informed her. Miho’s face puffed up in feigned anger as she crossed her arms over her chest.

“Yeah well, if you didn’t abandon me and my sister in the first place, we probably wouldn’t have had to fight those things!” she complained.

“Miho, there’s no proof of that. Whoever that voice was, something tells me he was watching us the whole time. Probably why he targeted us instead of John since he can clearly control the creatures in his barrier,” stated Mikuru, her analytics always being spot on.

“Wahahahahahahaha. You three handled that abomination perfectly! But now let’s see how you do against all of my abominations!” The disembodied voice rang in the ears of John as multiple bright lights began to appear further down the road from where the three were. The lights flashed for a few seconds and then disappeared, leaving abominations in their place. A quick count showed 11 abominations. Of those 11, one stood out. It was slightly bigger than the others and seemed to be giving commands, using its two shoulder arms to point at the lesser abominations and then at John and the twins.

“Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww! They’re even uglier than the other two!” complained Miho, her face frowning.

“Can we complain about how ugly they are later? Like, after we survive beating them later?”

“He’s right, Miho, get ready to fight,” Mikuru backed John’s comment to Miho, who reluctantly got ready to fight since she was clearly outnumbered.

“I wish Idena was here, she’d agree with me…” Miho said under her breath, missing her new harpy friend.

“Me too, Miho, me too,” John agreed, knowing her abilities would be useful in the fight to come.
