Amy raises the dead (sorta)

"Now what do we do?" asked Amy Pond, shivering as much from fear of what might happen to her soon-to-be-ex-husband Rory as she was from being naked in a wintry environment.

"I don't know," said the Doctor. "Maybe we can ask that fellow over there."

"What fellow?" asked Amy.

The Doctor pointed to a black gentleman wearing what looked like a parka. "That guy over there," he said.

"Hey!" cried Amy. "Do you know a way down that hole?"

"No," said the gentleman. "But I have some equipment in my escape pod."

"You have an escape pod?" asked the Doctor.

"Sure," said the gentleman, pointing to yet another hole in the ground. "It's right down there."

The Doctor and Amy hurriedly followed the mysterious stranger down the metal ladder that led to the interior of his escape pod -- a pod, which judging from all the dust and cobwebs, had been on the planet for a very long time.

Amy did not realize how long that actually was until she saw the blackened bodies of the three crew members who were still strapped to their seats. Crew members who probably would have decomposed long ago if not for the vicious cold.

Well, at least down here is a bit warmer than up there, thought Amy as she hugged herself to keep warm.

Nevertheless, Amy could not help but ask the stranger in the parka, "Er, how long has your pod been down here? It looks like the rest of your crew has been dead for a long time."

"That's because we all died when the pod crashed," said the gentleman. "Then again if we had stayed behind on the mining ship, we would have all died there as well."

"Wait a minute," said the Doctor. "What do you mean you all died? Why aren't you dead? Are you telling me that you died in the crash and then got better?"

"No," said the stranger. "I survived the crash. But then I got outside and -- Hey, that's one fancy watch you got there."

"Thanks," said the Doctor. "Don't you have one too?"

"No, unfortunately," said the stranger. "We didn't think to bring anything like that when we came to this planet. All we knew was that it was cold outside."

"I see," said the Doctor.

"And there was no kind of atmosphere," said the stranger.

"Well, I wouldn't quite say that," said the Doctor.

"And after the crash, I was all alone," said the stranger. "More or less."

"Wait a minute," said Amy. "That sounds familiar. Your name doesn't happen to be Dave Lister, does it?"

"No, but I did work with him back on the mining ship Red Dwarf," said the stranger.

"Oookay," said Amy. "So where is this equipment you were talking about?"

"Right here," said the stranger.

And as Amy watched in horror, the telltale eyestalk of a Dalek emerged from the stranger's forehead.
