Amy tried her best to look presentable but not too enticing. Their local warlord had been fond of taking female slaves the past couple of seasons. He even went so far as to refuse the entire tribute of grain instead opting to tell the villagers to use the grain to make more pretty daughters.

She looked at her reflection in the water basin. Is there any way to make her hair look less silky black? Maybe she should rub a bit of dirt on it. Maybe she should rub a little bit of dirt everywhere and tell her sisters to do the same to keep them from being taken like their sister Lisa. But her father forbid her: the village ostracizes anyone who tries to skip out on tribute whether it was in grain or daughter.

But what good did it do for her to be well liked anyways? Amy and her sisters were all old enough for husbands and yet none of them were married. It wasn't because they were ugly: all the girls were slim in the waste and plump where they should be; in fact it was the opposite. Everyone in the village assumed that whatever man foolish enough to marry one of the Tran sisters would find himself wifeless when she catches the warlord's eye. One family had even been so bold as to tell Amy's father that they'd marry their son to her, but only if they got their bride-price back when she's taken.

Oh how she wanted a husband. Not for honor or income. She wanted a man to satisfy the urge between her legs.

So what should she do?
