Chapter 2

Which adventurer do you follow
Amrea the Drow Sorcerer
The drow sorcerer stood in the field a few yards away from the road, the portal behind her slowly closing. She was beautiful, even by the standards of her people. She stood at about five and a half feet tall, her skin jet black and hair more silver than white. She wore simple traveling garb that covered up the various blades she had hidden on her person. It was topped off by a fur lined hood that helped shield her ice blue eyes from the unfamiliar sun.
Her overloaded backpack contained what supplies she could sequester in preparation for her journey. It wasn’t as much as she would have liked, since after all, she had left in a hurry. But more importantly was her spell book and components she had placed in the several hidden pockets that lined the bag.
Amrea looked back at the entrance to the under dark one last time before going to join the caravan. The portal sealed itself shut. There was no going back now. The only way to go was forward.
The caravan itself was on the larger side, consisting of over 2 dozen wagons and nearly a hundred mounted riders and pack animals, as well as many traverlers on foot. It didn’t take long before she found herself right in the thick of it. Having spent most of life in the under dark, she marveled at all the different types of people. In the first ten minutes of her joining the caravan, she saw her first tabaxi, harengon, and dragonborn. Like her, they were setting out on an adventure.
This caravan would stop at several small villages before reaching Neverwinter. Once reaching the renowned city, she would let fate take her where it deemed.
After walking for a few hours, she had made the acquaintance of a small adventuring party. They were friendly enough, though it was clear that they had never met a drow before and were a little cautious. Amrea didn’t blame them. Her people weren’t usually known to be that welcoming of strangers either. The dwarf and half-orc made small talk while the fire genasi tried to act like she wasn’t nervous. But it was the paladin that interested her. He had introduced himself as Sir Adam of Highspire. She didn’t even have to know much about humans to know he was handsome. She would have to keep her eye on him.
As the sun began to set, the caravan came to a halt. As everyone began to set up their various camps, Amrea realized how unprepared to rough it she was. Sir Adam commented on this when he asked her if she had a bed roll. She did not. Neither did she have a blanket, pillow, or sleeping clothes. She had thought they would make it to the first village before dark. As she began to contemplate using a spare set of clothes as bedding, she looked out across the road and noticed a small farm with a light on in the main house.
What she lacked in supplies she made up for in a generous supply of gold. Maybe she could rent a bed at the farm. She also received a kind offer from Sir Adam to share his party’s camp, but she could tell that made his companions uncomfortable, and she had no desire to create tension with anyone.
Upon further questioning, she found out the nearest village was only about a two hour walk away. This seemed like the most ideal situation as she could get a room at an actual inn. After explaining this idea, Sir Adam expressed his concern for her traveling so late by herself. This made her consider his offer even more.
This was quite the quandary. Does she camp with Sir Adam’s party, try the farmhouse, or take her chances and try to make it to the village.
