Himari Ryu bowed her head in shame as she talked to her father. "I have failed Father. Robert Ravers had gathered many resources and allies in a very short time. I felt we could not obtain our objective without weakening our position too much and share their destiny."

Her father looked at his daughter. "It was always a calculated risk. they were vulnerable and he was weak," he said thoughtfully. "Was there a beautiful woman with him?"

"Yes Father. There were many such women." Himari said.

"Then he has found a new lover." her father mused."You must find out which of these women is his new lover and we must remain alert for a new opportunity and... we must act faster. Perhaps, it is time to look for other weak points in the Ravers clan, perhaps one of the next generation."

"It will be as you wish Father," Himari said.

"How did your other efforts with the gaijin results," he asked.

"The Smith clan pulled back once our negotiations with Ravers failed." Himari said, "but we have secured contacts with others in the areas." Himari said and proceeded to update her father on her deals with other actors in the area.

Her father nodded in agreement. "You have done well Himari. The Smiths are cowards, forget them. These other gaijin... use them, but do not trust them."

"Yes Father." Himari said.

Robert had come into the office that morning and had been surprised to see Tamsin as his secretary. She had told him that she would be replacing Chastity for now, that Audrey and Daniel would be training a new secretary, and that Chastity had been transferred back to the reception in the lobby. He hadn't liked that Daniel and Audrey had made the change without consulting him and he suspected it might have something to do with his affair with Chastity. For a moment he thought about calling them to ask about it and he remembered that they would be coming in late today from the cabin and decided to ask them after lunch. A quick call down to the lobby to ask for Chastity revealed that she hadn't come in and had left a note Friday night that she would be coming in late this morning. This really surprised Robert and for a moment he wondered what was going on before shrugging it off, there really was nothing he could do until they all came in later and he could ask them and so he decided to get some work done.

Later that day Daniel and Audrey sat down for lunch at their meeting room like they usually do with their close friends at the office, Robert, Sophia, Philip Zander, Kathryn Miller, and her husband Derrick. Robert noticed that Audrey sat gingerly at the edge of her seat and Robert guessed she and Daniel had anal sex over the weekend. Like always while they ate they talked business, children and joked about different things. Robert saw her rest her hand on his shoulder and kiss his cheek and say with a coy smile "Happy Birthday Mr. Daniel. I'll bring you some coffee now." Everyone looked back and forth from Chastity to Daniel and Audrey and then to Robert.

"Did...?" Kathryn started to say before she stopped herself.

"Well... Looks like that ass ain't that tight today." Sophia said in a low voice as she glanced appreciatively at Chastity and Leah making coffee in the next room.

"Guess you're up next." Derrick winked to Sophia as he nudged her with his elbow.

"Nobody is up next," Daniel said and Robert saw how Audrey glared sideways at Sophia as she ate the cake.

"Danny's right," Robert said. "She isn't a piece of candy to pass around. She's free to spend her time with whom she wants and it's none of our business."

They all quickly fell silent as the two young women brought in coffee and tea for everyone, Chastity seemed to pay a little extra attention to Daniel and Audrey, before they both left back to their desks.

Robert mussed in silence as he sipped his coffee and realized that Audrey really had played him, that maybe even Chastity had also played him, and that Daniel had even managed to one-up him this time by nabbing Chastity for right under his nose, something that had rarely happened. They really were a great team together, and for a moment he wished Brooke was here with him. 'Well... If I'm going to get played and lose to anyone, I'm glad it's to them.' he thought and pulled out his cell phone and sent a message to Audrey. "Well Played" He then sent another to Daniel "Was that an extra birthday gift? Congrats. Enjoy!"

A week later.

"Just what the hell happened!" Damon roared in the meeting as his stare seemed to single out Carlos and Joan. "The mayor's been on my back since last night and I don't have an answer!" Everyone else looked at them to see their reaction.

"Maybe someone tipped them off?" Joan offered but shut her mouth when Carlos glared at her.

"I don't know what happened, Sir." Carlos offered. "Maybe someone tipped them off, or they found out I was watching them." trying to pull the blame to himself. "I'm a detective, not a spy."

"Really?" Damon asked "Then why the hell did seven! SEVEN! You hear me? Seven teachers sent their immediate resignation to Jack Hartburn and left town at the same time!"

"Seven?" But? There were only five we were investigating?" Carlos asked in honest confusion 'Dios Mio! This is even worse than we imagined.' he thought. They had been looking at 5 teachers, including Wessterhof. This new revelation brought that number up to eight.

"Yes! Seven!" Damon said, "Kinkaid, Vickers, Torrez, Mrs. Grimwald-"

"-Mrs. Grimwald?" Carlos said in surprise, "We weren't even looking at her."

"Everyone out!" Damon said and the rest of the police force, including the chief of police, decided to leave and not face the fury of the District Attorney. They had never seen him this angry and nobody wanted to get in his line of fire. "You stay!" he said pointing to Joan and she dutifully sat down next to Carlos.

Once everyone left Damon said. "Carlos. Seven teachers, five men, and two women, sent resignation letters to Jack Hartburn, not Wessterhof, to Hartburn. That means they knew Wessterhof wasn't going to get those letters. They all left Azure Rocks, some of them are telling me that they got new job offers, that they want a change of scenery, etc, etc, all Bullshit. But Wessterhof... Wessterhof isn't answering his phone, Wessterhof isn't home, he's nowhere. Wessterhof has disappeared. Gone! Poof! Nada!" Damon said waving his hands as if making magic.

"Now tell me what the hell happened? I sent you to watch them and get enough evidence for a wiretap warrant. You were watching them, I know it." Damon said. "What happened?"

Carlos looked back at Damon for a moment before he said softly. "I'll send an alert to other police departments nationwide to be on the lookout for them. I'll tell them I botched the investigation and that they got wind of it and escaped us."

"If I go with that the mayor and Police chief they are going to blackball you. You're going to lose your promotion. You know that?" Damon said and Carlos just nodded his head in agreement.

"Carlos!" Damon said "We need to know how far this went. We need to know if anyone outside the school was involved. Now, this is screwed up!"

"Damon, this was much bigger and than we thought. Lots of kids and their families would have been destroyed Nobody will know how many kids or who these bastards got to but... Damon. Your Ashley is safe, my Lisa is safe, and that is all that really matters. Do what you want with me, I'll take the blame, fired me if you need to."

"You sure Ashley's safe? Hannah? Lisa?" Damon asked.

Carlos just nodded. and for a moment both men looked at each other while Joan sat quietly to the side trying to disappear. Finally, Damon nodded and said. "Alright. Send the alerts. I'll open a missing person report for Wessterhof and lose it in the bottom drawer." He got up to leave and whispered "Thanks, Carlos."
