Alex

The door shuddered under your pounding. Every second stretched as you continued to bang on the door and call for Alex. Then, a muffled shout from the other side.

"Jo!" Alex screamed in response. You quickly stepped back just as the door flew open. Alex came flying through his eyes wide with fear.

Alex eyes met yours and you both breathed a heavy sigh of relief. You and Alex were quickly in each others arms. You could feel his heart hammering against your chest, he buried his face in your shoulder. He squeezed you tight like he was afraid you’d vanish if he loosened his grip for even a second.

"Alex, I need to tell you something" you said, pulling away slightly so you could look him in the eyes.

Your breath caught in your throat as you opened your mouth to speak, but Alex’s grip on your shoulders suddenly tightened. His eyes flickered past you towards jimmy, widening in alarm and then anger

"You piece of shit!" he spat, as he moved you safely behind him. Alex had finally noticed Jimmy and figured out what happened. Jimmy was on his feet still covered in blood already starting to run away.

Alex lunged forward, you grabbed his wrist with both hands. "No, wait! We don't have ti-" you pleaded, but he twisted free. Alex was quickly sprinting after Jimmy, who already had a good head start.

You ran after Alex, and as you watched Alex and Jimmy disappear around the corner of the building. A searing flash of light split into the alleyway, so bright you stumbled back, forearm flying up to shield your watering eyes. Just as quickly as it came it was gone.

"Alex!" You yelled, your voice cracking as you ran forward. You turned on to the street and saw him on the sidewalk, already sitting back up and looking confused. You dropped to your knees beside him, hands inspecting his face, his ribs and arms looking for injuries.

"Alex! What happened?" you gasped, your fingers trembling against his cheek as his dazed eyes focused on you. Alex blinked rapidly, as if trying to clear his vision. "I turned the corner and he was right there, and then the light... he got away!" Anger returning to his voice.

Before he could say more you gave him a kiss, catching him off gaurd and seeming to calm him down. "That doesn't matter, we need to get back to your place now!" You told him.

Sensing the urgency in your voice Alex nodded and you both got up. His eyes darted around the empty street, then back to you, his concern for Jimmy still there. You began tugging him toward the parking lot.

You quickly got to the car and were on your way back to Alex's place.

After a quick and paranoid drive by Alex you were outside his apartment. The car door slammed shut behind you with a thud that echoed through the quiet street. Alex’s front door just ahead, he quickly ushered you inside. The moment the door swung open, he pulled you inside and slammed it shut behind you, twisting the deadbolt with a sharp click. "Don't be scared, you'll be safe here." Alex said already moving to secure the place.

You reached out and grabbed his wrist, your fingers tightened and pulling him back before he could get away. "I didn't want to come back here because I was scared... well I was scared but not of Jimmy." You said nervously.

"What-" Alex tried to ask but you cut him off.

"Alex," you whispered. Your body trembling. "I love you."
