What's next?
Alex-Sue gets a ride to work...
Alex couldn't believe his own eyes as he stared at his face in the mirror. The makeup looked like it was applied with an expert hand, someone who did makeup a lot. There was a hint of glitter in the eyeshadow that sparkled a bit when he blinked, and the black eyeliner formed a perfect wing. Glancing down, Alex noticed for the first time the vast array of cosmetics laid about. He picked up a stray tube of lipgloss, and fumbled it a bit when he realized he now had nearly half-inch acrylic nails stuck to the ends of his fingers, in a dusty pink shade that matched his eyeshadow.
He could have kept staring, but a blaring car horn snapped him out of it.
"Alex-Sue!" The voice yelled again, "You better be ready to go, your ride is here!!"
Flustured, Alex found himself instinctively blurting out, "Okay, Mama! I'm comin'." Weird. He had no idea who this woman's voice belonged to, but for some reason "Mama" felt right. He quickly exited the bathroom and made his way down the hallway, momentarily surprised with how easily he was walking in his new shoes. He got to the narrow living room and stopped in his tracks.
"Joe?!"
There on the couch was his son, who he'd only run away from the night before when it became clear he was beginning to transform like everyone else around him. At least he still had his own body, like Alex, but that was all he could say. The young man was wearing a fuzzy pink bathrobe and slippers, a dozen or so curlers were rolled into his hair, and a half-finished cigarette dangled from his fingers.
"What're ya starin' at? Get going! You're gonna be late, and you know we can't afford to have you lose your job too!" the woman's voice that he'd been hearing was coming from Joe's mouth! Beside him another figure was slumped over, snoring softly. It was only after he got a good look that he realized who it was: his daughter Samantha! But she was wearing a white tank top and baggy jeans...
The horn blared again and this time Joe stood up. "Are you on somethin'? I swear if you've been partyin' with those triplets from the trailer down the way I'll-"
"I'm going, I'm going!" Alex finally interjected, turning towards the door and grabbing an oversized purse that sat on the floor. He had to get out of here if he was going to process any of this. His chunky heels clomping down the steps from the trailer brought him to and old pickup truck idling at the curb. It somehow looked familiar, though it definitely wasn't the same truck Pete had been in last night. And the driver definitely wasn't Pete.
"Tina??"
"Hey babe," she said dryly - she was dressed extremely casually. Cutoff shorts and a sleeveless t-shirt. "What's the holdup, you know your boss hates it when you're late."
Alex hopped in, glad to see a familiar face. He hoped the drive was long enough for him to get an idea what was going on. As weird as this was he didn't find himself panicking. He knew things were going wrong but he was still sort of going with the flow. And where did he work now, anyway? He couldn't imagine he still had his old office job...
Where does Alex-Sue work now?
