"You're not upset?" The staffer practically wanted to jump for joy. She'd drawn the short straw with being the one who'd had to tell Congresswoman Jordan the news about General Ibanez.
"Why would I be?" The Congresswoman asked, swirling her drink lightly, "General Ibanez has served the Colonies with distinction for over forty years now. I think she is entitled to a bit of happiness don't you? Even if it means she's leaving us."
"Yes Madame Congresswoman." The staffer said quickly and letting her mouth outrun her good sense she followed up. "But what about the company. It was only meant to be a training exercise."
"What about it?" Congresswoman Jordan asked, "General Ibanez has a division. Less than 50% of which is typically deployed to action in any given battle. Why should we be concerned that less than 1% of them decided to join in on their commander's joy? In fact. I'd say this has come at a wonderful time."
"A wonderful time?"
"Forget it. You're dismissed."
The staffer left gratefully, short one ass-chewing she was expecting to get.
"Yes." Jordan said when she was finally alone once more in the room. She returned to the interrupted call that the staffer had been unaware of, enjoying another sip of her whiskey as those on the other end of the stayed quiet she continued. "Don't you all agree? A wonderful time. I expect some will keep the children but for the others? Gideon IV will be a lovely place to grow up."
