Aftermath I

"I know one thing we should do," said Amy.

And with that, she plunged a stake into Spike and watched him turn into dust.

"Why did you do that?" cried Kennedy. "Spike helps train me in the future."

"He helped train you in your future," said Amy. "Not necessarily in Buffy's. Or at least not in this Buffy's future."

"Still it was not particularly sporting to kill him like that," said Kennedy. "After all, he was still under a spell."

"It was not particularly sporting for Darla to use guns against three unarmed opponents but that's what she did," said Amy. "And I have two gunshot wounds that prove it. Anyway, we need to get out of here. People in Sunnydale will ignore a lot of things but gunshots are not one of them. So we need to get out of here before the police show up."

"But what about Buffy?" asked Kennedy.

"What about Buffy?" asked Amy.

"Who's gonna look after her?" asked Kennedy.

"You know who's going to do that, Kennedy," said Amy. "She just hasn't met them yet. And she's not going to as long as we keep her down here."

"So where are you guys going to go?" asked Buffy.

"To another time," said Amy. "Hopefully the right time this time."

"So you're off to help this other me if I understand correctly," said Buffy.

"Yes, we are," said Amy.

"Can I come with you?" asked Buffy.

"What?" asked Amy.

"Can I come with you?" asked Buffy. "To help this other Buffy. I'm not too happy with what I've seen of this school and after what happened just now, I'm even less happier with it."

"But you have to stay here," said Kennedy. "Sunnydale needs you."

"No, she doesn't," said Amy. "Considering what happens to her in the future, she would be a fool to stay."

"You don't think I'm smart enough to survive here without you guys, Amy?" asked Buffy.

"Yes, I do," said Amy. "But if you stay, the odds will be against you. I can't have that on my conscience."

"Amy, please don't take this the wrong way but who are you to tell me what I should or shouldn't do?" asked Buffy. "You're not my Mom. You're not my aunt. You're just some stranger who fought by my side for a few brief minutes. Now I appreciate the fact that you and Kennedy probably helped save my life but then I probably helped save yours as well."

"What are you saying, Buffy?" asked Amy.

"I'm saying that I've changed my mind," said Buffy. "I wish to stay here in Sunnydale."

"But, Buffy --" Amy started to say.

"Don't 'but, Buffy' me, Amy," said Buffy. "I'm a big girl. I can take care of myself. Now if you excuse me, I need to go meet my Mom up front so that we can go see the principal."

And with that, Buffy left the basement.
