Aftermath II

"Well, I guess that's it," said Kennedy. "We might as well go."

"What's the point?" asked Amy.

"What do you mean, 'what's the point'?" asked Kennedy.

"We almost got that girl killed," said Amy. "Sure, we dusted a few vampires but we didn't really change things at all."

"Sure we did," said Kennedy. "Poor Buffy would have been killed if we had not showed up."

"Would she?" asked Amy. "How do you know that it wasn't our showing up that attracted the vampires to the basement in the first place?"

"I don't," said Kennedy. "But then I doubt those vampires would have needed us as an excuse to attack the Slayer."

"I wish I could be optimistic like you," said Amy as she undressed in preparation for the time portal spell.

"You can be, Amy," said Kennedy.

"How can you say that?" asked Amy.

"Because you're not the Amy I knew in my future," said Kennedy. "That Amy was selfish, vindictive and evil. She blamed my girlfriend Willow for everything bad in her life and she almost killed her. You're not like that. You're kind and generous and brave. You could have turned yourself into a rat to escape trouble like the other Amy did but you didn't. You could have opened a portal and escaped while Buffy's back and mine were turned but you didn't. You're a better Amy than that Amy."

"So you knew a different type of Amy," said Amy. "What makes you so sure that I won't turn into that other Amy some day?"

"I guess I'm going to have to keep traveling with you and find out," said Kennedy. "At least until we get this Buffy situation sorted out."

"At this rate, that could take years," said Amy. "And don't you have a girlfriend to go back to?"

"Maybe," said Kennedy. "But Willow has made it quite obvious for some time that I'm never going to grow old with her the same way she would have gladly grown old with Tara. And anyway, I could probably compete with Tara's ghost for only so long before I choose to move on."

"What are you saying, Kennedy?" asked Amy. "Are you using me as an excuse to break up with Willow?"

"No, but Willow doesn't need me," said Kennedy as she took off her clothes. "You do."

"No, I don't," said Amy.

"Yes, you do," said Kennedy. "Far more than you want to admit."

Amy just rolled her eyes and said, "Whatever. I'm not likely to be changing teams any time soon."

"I'm not asking you to," said Kennedy. "Anyway, what's the matter, Amy? Are you scared that you'll get too attached to me if we keep traveling together like this?"

Amy smiled and started chanting the spell that opened the portal. Once it was open, she threw her clothes into the portal and then turned to look at Kennedy.

"Scared?" asked Amy. "I'm not scared. Geronimo!"

And with that, a naked Amy Madison jumped into the time portal.

Ten minutes later, a smiling Kennedy threw her own clothes into the portal as well and then jumped in afterward.
