Chapter 3 by Guforess Guforess

What's the story?

After the war

The last war of 5068 was called that for a great reason. Fought over 50 continuous years from 5018-5068, human nature plus futuristic technological advancement equals almost total extinction.

With cloning, regeneration, remotely-controlled weapons and even more wonders used by every country to wage war on each other over a reason long forgotten, the human population dwindled rapidly with each year it went on. Until finally, only 2% of humanity remained alive. All the weapons and bombs were hidden away by the survivors, swearing never to use them again.

The survivors settled in what remained of the cities, living in peace after the trauma of a war that almost ended humanity.

Yet, those with less trust in humanity in the past had their own precautions.

The Global Union of Scientists, shortened to GUS, had a plan in case the war escalated to a point that all of humanity went extinct. If the war went on for more than 55 years, it was assumed that humanity had gone extinct by then. If so, a countdown timer (that was not shut down by surviving scientists in time), would automatically start the "Eden" plan. They had created what ancient people would call "homunculi", "artifical humans" made from artificial insemination in artificial wombs. There was enough space and enough nutrients for the humans to grow up to adult age (21), where they get preserved until the time was right. These were hidden in secret bunkers all over the world, enough for a new humanity to be created in time.

And these protocols were too forgotten.

So, after 5 years of the great war ending, a human sized glass pod filled with bright blue liquid holding a nude woman inside turned green. The liquid drained down an opening at the bottom, and the glass case opened.

A brown-haired girl opened her eyes. She blinked a few times, and looked around. The room was as big as a hotel room, with the walls being made from segmented grey steel. The pod sat at the back of the room, with a door straight ahead. On the right was a large bookcase containing as much information on human history as possible. On the right was a futuristic future computer installed in the wall, also showing archives of humanity. In the middle was a simple bed.

The brown haired girl did not know her name. She ran her hands over her curvy bare body. And no clothes too.

She walked around the room to explore it. She needed to know her name. She read the words on the computer: A History of Gaia.

So she would name herself Gaia. The girl noted it down as she looked around the simple room to find her promise to freedom, a dark grey door.

What laid beyond, she needed to know. She walked forward, noticing how absolutely thick and heavy the door was. She pressed down on the rectangular knob, pushing it forward to open the door.

She saw the door open to a wide hall, with various doors just like hers lining the walls.

Gaia closed the door behind her, walking to the left where stairs awaited. She walked up the stairs to an opening covered by plants, which she pushed out of the way to see a grassy plain with trees and bushes.

Gaia stepped forward out of the woods, where she saw a dusty, rusted sign:

Welcome to Michigan

So she was in "Michigan". She started to walk towards the road when she stopped, noticing another nude girl like her with darker brown hair walking down the road, looking lost.

Does Gaia approach the strange girl?
