Let's delve deeper into...
Academy of the Mystic Eye
There are many magic schools within the Dune Seas of the Shi'qae Sultanate, all with various degrees of prestige and ability to produce quality sorcerers and sorceresses. Despite that, they are all held in high regard as there is no profession more respected than that of a wizard. They are respected advisers, ambitious innovators, capable statesmen, excellent teachers, and accomplished medical practitioners. But there is one academy that is above all the rest.
The Academy of the Mystic Eye doubles as the highest sought after magic academies that receive only the best of the best (receiving students from other academies that of special note), as well as a collection of the most elite magi in an effort of forming a council to rule over the magic users of the Sultanate. It is here that most regulations involving magic in all aspects of life is from, basically making prolific magic users a governmental body of their own. They even have their own magical law enforcement to do internal policing among magi.
It is because of this, the magi from the Academy of the Mystic Eye refuse to work as advisers to the Sultan's court, and always have. They however do have a representative in the Sultan's court to express the Academy's own interests and to ensure the Sultanate's government does nothing that would hinder the agendas of the Academy.
The base of operations of the Academy is on a magic-made island off the southern most coast of the Dune Sea, just outside of the territory of the Steppes of Sorrow. The only reliable connection to the island is a bridge of magically floating stones. The island itself is constantly surrounded by a storm that is held in perpetuity by magical means, which means any attempts by sea or air to approach the island will prove fatal.
Only members of the Academy as well as prestigious or invited guests are ever allowed to set foot on the island. And if they do, they will find the Academy's campus which is pretty much its own bustling city. Due to the nature of the Academy, the entire populace of this school-city is entirely of magic users of various fields. They even tolerate users of dark magic! Though, it is forbidden for users of dark magic to practice their works within the campus, and to never speak of their practices outside of disclosing their uses of it. It is only thinly supported as a means of further study of the magical arts, but will be punished harshly if negative consequences of the studies were to be found out.
The Academy is also home to the greatest collection of magical knowledge the world may have ever seen. It would be hard to tell if their collection could rival the height of the Elven Empire, but it is considerable. Should anything happen to the great libraries of the Academy, magical study and advancement could be set-back several centuries.
It is not a secret school, quite the opposite it is in fact the most well known school in the Empire. It is thanks to this, early attacks by the Theocracy had targeted this school but they had all failed, and that was before all of the security measures that are being used today. Now, the Theogonists and their Inquisitorial forces look upon this Academy, and many others, with personal disdain as it is the Academy of the Mystic Eye that was responsible for a great many loses of the Theocracy in the early wars. Now they have **** but to just tolerate its existence, waiting until the moment their hubris get the better of them and all those heretical magic users be the causes of their own demise.
The Academy is lead by a council of Archmagi who are chosen by the Archmagi before them. The Academy is an **** meritocracy where only the best among them get to be put in charge, regardless of sex, age, beliefs, or what else have you. And each Archmage are chosen because they are the best in their field of study, whether this be medicine, evocation, alchemy, enchanting, zoological study, and so forth. Every magical and academic field are deeply entwined with one another as knowing the compositions of the world itself is to know magic as well. There is very little fields of study that are not taken seriously within the walls of the Academy.
End of the lecture.
