About kids with magic?

Chapter 825 by Fantasy Fantasy

I woke up grumbling to myself and had to sit up from the uncomfortable feeling on the back of my mind. I rubbed my eyes, my face and let out a silent yet drawn out sigh. I looked at both sides of me and found the girls still sleeping under the covers, Grace to my left and Mila hugging Sarah to my right.

It was 9:40 am, and since they fell asleep at around 6:00 am they wouldn’t be waking up any time soon. Maybe in a couple of hours at best.

I carefully snuck out of bed. I wanted to stay there for a while longer, but there’s stuff to do around the house. I don’t know if anyone else is awake, and if nobody gave Cake her breakfast already, I’m in serious mortal danger.

I put on only my boxers since I’d be throwing my work clothes to the wash and left the sex room, going down from the third floor to the second and then the first. When I made it to the kitchen, I saw Alice and Fern sitting across from each other at the counter, eating some toast and having a cup of tea and coffee respectively. Cake and Red were also in the middle of having breakfast, snouts deep in their bowls.

I smiled and rubbed my neck. “Beat me to it, huh?” I said.

“I told you to leave breakfast on the weekends to me,” Alice said, shaking her head and setting her cup down. “Especially today. How much did you actually sleep? Three hours at most, I bet.”

Ugh, caught.

Fern chuckled. “Good morning, Oliver. We… figured that since everyone else was up until late last night, we’d have breakfast first.”

“Yeah, of course. That’s fine,” I said with a low groan.

“Hm? Are you feeling alright?” Alice asked me, likely noticing my mild discomfort. “Everything went okay last night, I hope?”

“Yeah, everything went well. Just… some strange news which I’ll have to share later. For now, I better go take a shower.”

“We don’t mind if you choose to stay in your underwear, by the way,” Fern said with a teasing smirk. Alice laughed with her.

I smiled. “Why don’t we take a dip in the pool later?”

Fern’s grin fell. “I… forgot to bring a swimsuit again…”

“You don’t really need one, do you?” Alice said, smirking knowingly.

“Oh. I guess not…”

The two girls laughed together again, and I left the kitchen with a nice warmth in my chest. Those two were really growing closer, and I couldn’t be happier.

I went back up to the second floor and jumped in the shower, and with that time to think, Frey’s news came back to me. The most notorious thing on my mind was wondering why I didn’t feel as apprehensive about the whole idea as I thought I should have.

If I had kids, they’d more than likely be born with the ability to use magic. The more I sat on the idea, the lesser of an issue it felt. That’s not to say it wasn’t one, but rather… maybe it wasn’t as bad as I first thought? I mean, if it ended up working in their favor, then… It could be a real advantage. Yeah, the more I thought about it, it became less of a burden. It was more like… being done with a test only to realize there were even more questions on the back of the sheet.

I had already made up my mind that I’d have kids eventually, that I’d had to deal with all the pain and anxiety of being a father. Answering weird questions, taking responsibility for their screw ups, teaching them to be good people, dealing with their rebellious phases or even antagonistic personalities, worrying about where they are and what they are doing when out of my sight… Overall just raising kids. Adding ‘teaching them about magic and how not to use it’ seemed like just another thing to add to the already infinite list. A very heavy and critical item to add, but so was everything else in it. The way I see it, teaching them to avoid hurting people with magic was just as important as teaching them to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you.’

Well, I say I made up my mind, but it was possible these news would change the minds of the girls. Fern aside, considering how we just started dating, everyone else wanted kids eventually. Even Diana wanted kids, she just didn’t say it much because there was a conversation about timing there that we had yet to have.

Timing, huh? That’s another thing. Related to why the fuck I’m thinking about having children when I just had my first anniversary with my first girlfriends. This isn’t remotely the time to be thinking about it, but Frey just HAD to come out and say that, didn’t she?

Ugh, even though I hate to admit it, better she told me now than later. I just hoped the girls wouldn’t take it too badly.

And they didn’t.

Later that morning I gave the girls the news over breakfast, and while there was silence at first, Sarah was the first to ask a question.

“Does that mean they’d have strength like yours? Or that they’ll have a lot of energy and stamina? Because it’d be an advantage if any of them want to pursue sports, and I have conflicting feelings about that…” She crossed her arms and pouted.

“Oh, I can see that,” Fern nodded in agreement.

“Will they be tough?” Mila asked. “Like, we’ve seen you get punched in the face without flinching.”

“I kind of hope they are,” Noelle said sheepishly. “I’d be a lot less worried about them getting hurt.”

“I… don’t really know what it would look like, exactly,” I said. “Not even Frey knows for sure. She just says they’ll have the ability to use magic.”

“If so, then I doubt we have a lot to worry about,” Diana said. “They may naturally have some… supernatural abilities, but anything more complex should have to be learned, like you have, right? It’s not like you suddenly had the ability to clean things up with a wave of the hand. You worked up to it.”

I nodded. “That’s true.”

“I, for one, welcome it,” Grace said with a small grin. “I have no misgivings about letting my kids have an edge in life. We’ll just have to teach them restraint.”

“We’re not exactly good at restraint, you know?” Mila told her.

Grace shrugged. “Considering what we COULD be doing, I believe we are.”

Alice sighed. “I really hope they can read minds…”

“Hm? Why?” Noelle asked her.

“They’d be able to stay away from a lot of trouble if they could.” There was a tinge of pain in her voice, and we knew she was talking from experience.

You know… I hadn’t considered that. Now I was starting to hope that they could.
