A week and a half later

A week and a half later, you're working hard at your desk on Friday afternoon. You haven't heard anything from your application. Did you fill it in wrong? Were you on the right page? Did it even go through? All these questions and more fly through your mind as your boss stops by for a chat.

"Hey Jack, did you think about what Arowyn said about sponsoring a girl of your own?"

"Yeah, actually. I put in my application that night, but I haven't heard anything back yet." You reply.

Your boss raises an eyebrow. "Oh? They're usually pretty quick. Tell you what, a buddy of mine works there, I'll give him a call and see what's up."

"Thanks boss, I appreciate that." You reply as your boss leaves you back to your own devices.

You head out of the building as government office buildings are known for their "excellent" cell phone coverage, and your building is no exception. You dial your buddy's number and he picks up. "Hey man. How's it going over there?"

Your buddy responds, "Good, good. Busy as always with another batch of girls needing sponsors, and a few folks in process of trying to cross over."

"Glad to hear that. Hey, you know Jack, right? He put in an application a week and a half ago and hasn't heard back." You say.

"Oh? That's quite uncommon for them. Tell him to get his ass over here, pronto. I'll make sure he gets an interview." Your buddy replies.

"Sure, will do. Thanks man, I owe you one." You say.

"Yeah, same place and time. Gotta get back to it, we have to get ready to receive Jack. Bye for now." *Click*

Ah, the perks of knowing the right people. It doesn't help any that you just called the vice president of AWIO, but he's been your buddy for a long time, and the the beer you now owe him is just an excuse to go hang out with him again.

Your boss comes back to your desk within what seems like a scant few minutes. "Hey Jack, looks like you got an appointment at the AWIO building soon. If you find a match, feel free to take the rest of the day off."

"Wow .. that's really generous. Thank you so much, boss." You really must buy that man a nice bottle of wine for him and his elven princess-wife to enjoy. You lock your computer and tidy up your desk before driving over to the AWIO building.
