So... what's at the top?

A vista and a table

Chapter 7 by The Doctor The Doctor

As he finally reached the top of the rocky elevation, Macius realized how exceptional the location really was.

On his right, the long winding semi-natural stairways he'd spent the last few hours walking through could be seen, sometimes tunneling through the rock, partially hidden from him yet still visible through windows in the rock. On his left, the lake disappeared into the depths of the cave like a small underground sea. In front of him, the meadow gave way to the lake's largest area, well lit by the natural tympanon, and at this time of day, a column of light fell directly on a table of rock.

O
nly a particularly foolish knight would have ascribed such particular circumstances to chance. Some divine presence was blessing him with a form of gift, yet why or what, Macius couldn't tell. It seemed clear the intention wasn't evil, or even threatening. The deep calm and undisturbed peace of the whole area spoke volumes. No evil troll, no creature of darkness would foul this place. In many ways, the only evils Macius could meet here, he carried with him. He felt a feeling of guilt at the thought of the massacre he'd carried out a few days earlier.
