Chapter 89 by keron keron

What's next?

A visitor

You're halfway up the stairs to your bedroom when you hear a knock on the cabin door. You freeze and listen hard to make sure you weren't mistaken. Since you've arrived here, you've had no visitors and nobody knows you're here. After a few seconds, there's a knock again. This time, it sounds more urgent. You look outside through a window and it's snowing heavily and white all around. You don't see anything except snow.

Cautiously, you go to the door. There's no peephole in the door and you can't see who's on the other side. You consider teleporting outside, but it's freezing and it would take you a while and some trouble to get bundled up appropriately for the weather. Could Alpha have somehow hunted you down, you wonder. No, if this was him, he didn't need to knock. He could have just barged in.

Your curiosity gets the best over your fear and you open the door, bracing for the cold air that rushes in. You're surprised to see a solitary woman standing outside in ski clothes and holding just 1 ski in her hand. She's shivering and her lips are turning blue.

"Oh thank god!" the woman exclaims when she sees you. "Can I please come in??"

You're inclined to say no to her, but a closer look at her face changes your mind. She's quite beautiful with dark hair, deep blue eyes and a pretty smile. You nod and step aside, allowing her to rush in for warmth while you shut the door. The woman drops the ski by the door and heads straight to the fireplace, removing her gloves and hat and trying to warm up quickly. Knowing that there's no point rushing her for answers, you let her be for now, going to put the kettle on in the kitchen to make some hot coffee.

By the time the coffee is ready and you return to the den, the woman has removed her winter parka as well and she's standing in front of the fire in a sweater and long ski pants. She turns to thank you when you hand her the warm mug of coffee, trying a tiny sip of it. The color in her lips and skin has returned to normal and she looks even more stunning than before, and you can't help noticing that she has an excellent figure as well that even her sweater can't conceal. You also notice that she's wearing a giant diamond ring on her wedding finger.

"Thank you! You're a lifesaver. I'm Jessica. What's your name?" she asks, taking another sip.

"No problem. I couldn't say no to a damsel in distress! My name is John," you say, feeling odd since it's been a week since you've had an actual conversation with anyone.

"Thank you, John!" Jessica says again. She really sounds grateful and apparently has no idea who you are.

"So... what happened? Why are you out here by yourself in the snow? It's dangerous outside," you say.

"I was skiing with friends and we were supposed to return to the lodge a couple hours ago due to the forecast, but we lost track of time and stayed out longer. Then the snow got really heavy and I felled on the slopes and lost 1 of my skis," she says, pointing at her lone ski by the door. "By the time I stopped rolling, I had completely lost my bearings and contact with my friends. I tried staying where I was and calling out for them, but it was useless. So, not wanting to freeze to **** outside, I started walking and after a while, happened across your cabin. Seriously, you're a lifesaver." Jessica takes a long sip of coffee and it's clear that she's still cold. She looks around when the mug leaves her lips. "This cabin is similar to the 1 we're in. Do you have a hot tub too?" she asks.

"Yeah, I think all the cabins do," you say.

"Great! Mind if I use it? I can feel my body temperature is still too low and I need to get warm," Jessica says. She doesn't wait for you to answer before she hands you her mug and heads in the direction of the room with the hot tub. You're surprised that she's just going to help herself to it, but she's probably not thinking clearly in her condition.
