Is there anyone else in the house?
A trio of older men
Before he could say anything, the door that he came out of opens and out comes a trio of older men. Two of them I recognize but one I have not seen before. This one, who seems the youngest out of the three, speaks up, “Hey Nathan, who's your visitor?”
My uncle goes to my side and presents me to the other men. “This is my nephew, Joanna's son,” he introduces me. “Charles, this is your Aunt Lena's younger brother, your uncle-in-law, Andrew.”
“Nice to meet you,” I say, but since he's taken a position behind the other two men, I can't really reach out to shake his hand. He just stares at me after giving a small acknowledging nod towards me.
“And you remember my older brothers, Your Uncle Steve and Uncle Aaron?” he asks. I nod and they smile and wave towards me.
“Andrew, why don't you help Charles with his luggage. Give him your sister's study,” my Uncle Nathan commands.
“Why there?” Andrew protests.
“Because this is my house I can say where my nephew stays,” my Uncle Nathan explains.
Andrew swiftly takes one of my suitcases and rolls it towards the house. My Uncle Steve, who is the eldest of four siblings, my mom being the youngest and only daughter of my grandparents, stops me to give me advice. “Don't mind Andrew. Between him and your Uncle Nathan, he has taken your Aunt Lena's passing the hardest. He'll come around, just give him time.”
Uncle Nathan sends me into the house, advising me, “Your room is on the third-floor with the view of the fields.” I nod and walks towards the door they came out of. I enter the house and find a set of stairs to the second level.
“Up here,” the voice of my Uncle Andrew is heard above me. I find another set of stairs which ascend to the third floor. When I get to the third level, I find only two rooms. One room I find empty, which has a view of the pool, the pool house, and the vineyard behind it. There is no sign of my Uncle Andrew, so I exit and walk towards the other room.
The door to the room is ajar, but there is nothing ominous about it. I push open the door and find...
