A tough choice

As Zack finished his cereal, he thought about the last twenty-four hours and how his life had been completely turned upside down. He thought about how he’d messed up with Lisa for a girl who now hated him. He thought about Heather and how he’d messed up with her because of the same girl. He knew he needed to apologize to her for that. He also needed to get word to Chloe and Gavin to let them know he was okay. And mostly, he thought about Victoria, the green-eyed beauty who had stolen his heart and would be forever known to him as “The one who got away.” The more Zack thought, the angrier he became. Eventually, the anger became too much for him.

“FUUUUUUUUUUCK!” he shouted and with a swipe of his hand, everything on the table went flying.

As the milk and cereal puddled on the floor, Zack walked off to the room where he had spent the night and gathered his things. He couldn’t stand to be at the lake any longer. He needed to go home, and felt the sooner the better. Walking past the mess he had just made in the dining room, Zack walked out the front door of the rental cabin and tossed his things in his car.

He sat nervously in the driver’s seat with the keys in the ignition and thought everything over for the hundredth time. Suddenly a thought came to his head.

“Shit! Chloe and Gavin! If I leave, they won’t have a ride home,” Zack screamed again and violently shook the steering wheel. “FUUUUUUUUUUCK!”

Zack pulled out his phone and scrolled through his contacts. When he found the number he needed, he pressed “Send.” He listened as the phone dialed the number and began ringing.

“Hello?” a voice answered on the other end.

“Hi Mrs. McRose, its Zack.”
