A tale of two bails

Erica joined another police officer to go to the civilian gallery of the courtroom, watching what would happen to her mates. From the docket, Alicia went up first, with the two buxom blondes behind her.

"Alicia Marisel Ortega, you have been charged with creating a public nuisance" the judge ordered her to step forward. "Are there any objections to granting Miss Ortega bail?"

"No, your honor," an attorney from the DA's office responded.

After asking how much she made in a week, and considering the comparative lightness of her offense, the judge sets Alicia's bail at $1,000, before calling Lisa up.

"Lisa Ann Caruthers, you have been charged with sexual ****. Are there any objections to granting Miss Caruthers bail?"

"Yes, your honor," the attorney piped up as Lisa's heart sank, "we have received multiple independent reports that Caruthers is manipulative and controlling; her mean spirit towards the victim and disregard towards the victim's wishes is clear indication that she would be a danger to the victim should she be released prior to her trial."

"I see," the judge demurred. "Miss Caruthers, do you have anything to say in your defense?"

"Your honor, I am an upstanding member of this community," Lisa started, but then found she couldn't back that statement up with anything else.

"Hmm," the judge pondered, "I see no evidence of a successful rebuttal of the prosecutor's claims. There will be no bail for Miss Caruthers, and she is remanded to the county jail until further notice."

Erica smirked at this turn of events while Lisa was shocked. Lisa tried to look on the bright side - she'd have time to talk with her lawyer on the inside - but the weight of what just happened crushed her as she was led away.

"Caroline Erica Davidson," the judge called her up, " you have been charged with sexual ****. Are there any objections to granting Miss Davidson bail?"
