A swarm of jakis!

Maybe they were too deep in the woods, maybe they made too much noise while fighting previously... fact was that as they walked forward, they felt the surrounding forest get more and more lively.

There was unrest around them, but too many trees around to get a proper view of what was happening and the more unrest there was, the more unsettled the two felt.
They came here searching for prey and while Mei was indeed a powerful fighter that could most likely rival anything the forest might throw at them... that was under the assumption that she was at her best and would hold no qualm against using all her strength to fight back, and that it won't be a drawn out fight.

Yes, under those assumptions, but the threat that was about to run them over was about to trample over most of them!
There were jakis running their way... in the beginning the couple spotted just a few, but then they noticed there were far more around than they could count at a first glance and they were coming at them from different directions...

...a swarm!

That wasn't good, it wasn't good at all.
There must be hundreds of them and regardless of how weak they were... Ren wouldn't be able to handle that many, and a prolonged fight might drain Mei beyond what she could handle!

However even if they ran, would they be able to outrun the vermins in their homeground?
Even if they did, what if they fell into someone or something else's trap?

They had to make a choice, and they had to make it fast...
