Chapter 44 by Almax Almax

What's the next move?

A sudden surprise!

{if@ Gammod == False}Before you know it, the bell rings and it's time to head back into the mini-theatre for the second batch of lectures. That was fun!

You make your way through the bustling halls -- it looks like a lot of people have changed into their sports uniform pants, for some reason -- and climb back up to the back row. Lexi's woken up now, and is animatedly gesturing the story of her dream to Cameron as you approach. He's nodding along with the story, leaned across the empty chair between the two of them and trying to fix up her hair a bit. You're a little bit surprised to see that she's letting him!

You wait patiently for her story and Cameron's handiwork to come to a close, before walking past his legs and plopping down in the seat between them once again. Looking over at Lexi.... he did okay.

The theatre quietens down as the lights start to dim, and you focus your eyes on the stage, hushing and pushing your friends to be quiet. You see Miranda, sitting in her seat up at the front with all of her notebooks in front of her.... your hushing and pushing gets softer. You feel kind of bad for her, all alone down there....

Sensing that the game is over, Cameron and Lexi stop their accidental-intentional elbowing and talking. The stage lights flash on, and on walks the next speaker......

{endif}

Woah, what the heck? On the stage isn't your normal historian-librarian-type, or even a past-their-prime Warrior -- it's a woman clad in full, shiny armour, with a huge weapon on her back. It's a Sledgeaxe! {if@ Weapon == 2}This could be you in a few years....{else}It works really well for her. You're starting to feel a bit self conscious about your choice....{endif}

She gives a brief introduction -- her name is Bridget Sluddsan, and she's a high-ranking Warrior to the North. She's going to be walking around the school for the rest of the year, looking for people to take with her on an expedition to expand the city Northwards, and she'll even be running some classes! That part excites you the most, because she'll probably be choosing third-years for the expedition bit, but with the classes you're absolutely in with a chance!

Her armour, and even the handle of her Sledgeaxe, are decorated with innumerable designs and patterns and icons. She's clearly a very accomplished woman.... and hey, when her mission's a success, they'll probably need Warriors to help run things for the next few years, so that's something to look forward to!

With that, Bridget turns on one heel and marches off of the stage to the quiet murmurs of the audience. That's so exciting! You kick your legs a little in your seat to try expel some of the excitement energy from your body. It barely works, and that's awesome! Cameron looks pretty excited too, albeit way less than you, and Lexi -- huh. Lexi's eyes are all narrowed, and she's glaring at Bridget as she leaves the stage. What's that about? You've never seen her do anything but smile....

You're about to ask, when suddenly another voice comes on through the speaker -- oh, the actual lecturer is here. This guy's definitely the librarian type. But as he's starting his story, Lexi rises from her seat next to you, and starts walking past you and out of your row. Hey!

You reach forward and tug at the legs of her pyjama pants, looking up at her with a concerned, questioning face. She looks back down at you with that same cold glare, then blinks a few times as if confused. There's a brief pause, and her smile doesn't come back fully, but at least she's not glaring so hard anymore.

"Sorry, Debbie, I've just got something I need to do. They can't see us back here, remember?" A hint of a smile returns to her. "You just enjoy the lecture! It's never really been my thing."

With that, she continues walking, pulling her pyjama pants out from your grip. Cameron pulls his legs back towards his chair to let her through, and she reaches down to ruffle his hair on her way past. Once she's gone the two of you share a long, long look.

"I'm not good at friend stuff, but I feel like I should go with her." Cameron says at last, after a short eternity of searching each others' eyes.

What do you say?
