Chapter 46 by HistoricoPublius HistoricoPublius

Does anyone respond to her cries?

A stranger takes pity on her.

Fate Roll: Fate Chart, 50/50 (CF 3): 1d100=15! Yes! She might be saved!
Is it her captor? Fate Roll: Fate Chart, Very Likely (CF 3): 1d100=54. No!
Is it a different kind of wicked fey? Fate Roll: Fate Chart, 50/50 (CF 3): 1d100=57. No - finally a break.

Gilia desperately tries to free herself once again, but the ropes are just too tight. She sobs, mouth bleeding as the little fairy cackles and reaches for her mouth with its pliers again...

Then, suddenly, another voice chirps something in the sing-song language that the fairy's been speaking. It pauses, a look of confusion and consternation coming across its diminutive, ugly face. Then a silver blade jabs over Gilia's shoulder from somewhere out of sight and pokes it in the rear. The fairy shrieks in rage and pain, whirling on the newcomer, and snaps at them with its pliers. There's a clang as the pliers are deflected by something, and the fairy shrieks something at the newcomer before flitting off to a nearby table. It shakes the pliers in rage, then zips out the window and is gone.

"H-Hello?" Gilia gasps through her still-bleeding mouth. "Hello? Who's there?"

"Sorry about that guy!" a cheerful, high-pitched voice says. "Let's get a look at you now, eh?" Gilia feels tiny hands on her arm, and then she's rolled over onto her back. She finds herself peering up - not very far - at her rescuer.

The creature that's come to her aid is another tiny being, though larger than the fairy it scared off. Just about two feet high, this being resembles a tiny, pink-skinned woman with garments made of leaves and flowers and an abnormally large head. Her huge eyes are entirely black - no whites or irises visible - but have long, delicate lashes, and her long brown hair flows down her back in a tangled, disordered mane. The tiny woman blinks at Gilia as she takes her in. "Uh-oh! He gotcha good, huh? And blood's important for you mortals, so I hear. Here, let me help!" Before Gilia can say anything, the little woman's grabbed a handful of the leafs that make her clothes stuffed them into Gilia's mouth. She nearly gags on the musty, dry mouthful, but they do stabilize her tender, damaged tooth and stem the flow of blood in her mouth.

"F-Fhans," she says through the mouthful of leaves. "Uhhh...el ee uh?"

Her little rescuer frowns. "What? Oh, here. Too much, I guess." Deftly, she fishes into Gilia's mouth and pulls out some of the leaves, leaving just a few wrapped around the barmaid's tooth. Gilia spits a last few bits of dirt and mulch out.

"Th-Thanks," she says, gasping in a breath. "I thought that thing was...gonna kill me."

"Oh, the tooth fairy? Nah, they just want teeth," the woman says cheerily. "Not that it would have cared if you'd died. I mean, no harm done, right?"

"Well...except...I'd be dead," Gilia says weakly.

"Yeah, but - oh!" The other woman slaps her forehead, chuckling. "Right! Mortals don't recover from that! I always forget about that. Crazy! You can't just reform your essence, right?" Gilia shakes her head, baffled. "Weeeeiiird. Well, definitely a good thing I stopped him, then! I just sorta thought he was being an asshole."

"Well, thank you," Gilia says. "Would you - I mean, could you please...untie me?"

"Hmmmm." The tiny woman purses her lips. "I mean, I certainly can. Got my sticker right here!" She waves her "sword" - it looks like it might be a repurposed steak knife - enthusiastically, and Gilia flinches away from the poky end. "The question is should I? I mean, you were pretty clearly picked up by Zippy Dick, and Dick gets cranky when people mess with his toys. Especially lately, he's really trying to get in good with Essameria. But on the other hand! Dick's an asshole, and freeing you would be pretty funny."

"Please," Gilia begs. "Please, untie me and let me out. I'll do anything!"

Is she able to convince the other woman to free her?
