A rude awakening

As you woke you found your hands bound a black sack covering your face. You could hear faint talking and what sounded like laughing. Then you heard your uncle Ted speak. “Andrew do you think he’s awake?” You heard some movement but remained still listening and straining your ears. “Naw” your uncle Andrew replied before you heard more movement. “Do you think he’ll like the surprise just like when Pa did the same to us?” Your heard you heard Ted say aloud. “He’ll either make it or he won’t Teddy just like you, me Sadie and Mary did he either break or he’ll make it.”

As you remained still listening intently the car continued whats sounded like a dirt road. Except now it sounded like it was night the cawing of crows and chirping of grass hoppers. “But he hasn’t even been taught how to shoot much less survive like pa taught us!” Ted shouted. “So What!! If he’s a real Price he’ll survive in that godforsaken forest like the rest of us did and like great-grandaddy and all his grand-daddies before him and if he dies then it only proves my hunch that he’s an impostor and that he isn’t my goddamn nephew.”

“And if he is Stephanie’s child what then Andrew? Sadie will have your head if she finds out we put him through the trial alone and especially without anyone’s knowledge!” Ted shouted. “You think I don’t know that Teddy! Pa’s falling apart Ma doesn’t know and Sadie sure as hell wants nothing to do with it! We can’t risk anyone getting close to it or finding it if they do you know what will happen.” Andrew shouted as the car braked suddenly.

You remained still as your two uncles continued to argue you before your the door open and then slam shut. You soon felt arms roughly grab you before tossing hard onto the cold hard soil. “If your a real Price you’ll find your way home and if not the forest will take care of you.” You heard your Uncle Andrew’s voice say to you before you heard him walk away. Soon the sound if the car was heard as it drove off before the only sound was the cawing birds and the familiar feelings of loneliness surrounding you.

You calmed yourself down before bitting your tongue as you dislocated your thumb to get your bound hands out of the zip ties. You quickly took the black hood off your head before jamming your thumb back into place with a small whimper of pain. Looking around you saw grey withered trees all around you, the sky was grey and you could barely see 20 feet in front of you as grey fog surrounded you on all sides. You could now slowly hear whisperings all around you then the cawing of crows. Th withered trees surrounded you swaying two and fro.
