Chapter 7

What will the next day hold for Dan and Dawn?
A romantic walk in the countryside
Dan slowly stirs from his deep and peaceful slumber, blinking a few times as his eyes adjust to the sunlight that spills into the room through a narrow gap in the curtains. It had been a long time since Dan had slept as well, but as he shifted and stirred a faint murmur can be heard from Dawn from just to his side. He smiles to himself as he moves his arm over his eyes to block out the unwelcome light.
Dawn rolls over slowly to face the twisted limbs and body of Dan's sleeping form, a large happy smile on her doll-like face. “Good Morning Mr Morphy.” Dawn murmurs, leaning over and kissing Dan on his cheek. She could hear him groan wearily and it made her smile as she watches Dan slowly move.
Dan removes his arm and blinks few more times, to try and help his eyes adjust to the light and hoping the room would come into focus. His efforts reward him with the image of Dawn smiling down at him. The light leaking in through the curtains giving her an almost angelic quality to compliment her beauty. He attempts to mention how beautiful she looks, but the words stumble and trip in his mouth and let forth an uncomprehensive sound.
“Guess you’re definitely more of a night owl than a Morning person,” Dawn says with a soft giggle as she strokes Dan’s face with her hand. “Hmm, you’ve got a little bit of stubble.” Dawn continues as her soft hands catch the rough small hairs on Dan’s cheek. She continues to stroke the small hairs and giggles, while Dan's body tries to comply with his minds wishes to wake up.
“Yeah, and you’ve got bed head,” Dan replies with a weak grin, not his finest work by a long shot, but Dawn giggles anyway. He then feels her wrap her arms around him and holds him in a nice warming embrace. Unfortunately for Dan, the newfound comfort was hindering his efforts to wake up, as he felt his eyelids begin to grow heavy once more.
Dawn lets out another heat warming giggle before she slowly untangles herself from Dan’s arms and slowly climbs out of bed. “Well, I’m going for a shower while you wake up more,” Dawn says in a soft tone, as she stretches before pulling a towel out of a drawer and walking out of her bedroom.
Dan watched Dawn walk away, his eyes unfocusing the further she moves away until she was at the door and blowing him a kiss. Once she had left the room he put his head back on the pillow and closed his eyes. He just needed a few moments that was all.
When Dan next opened his eyes, a few hours had passed. The small trickle of light illuminating Dan's room was now replaced with a bright and warm scene, with the curtains opened wide. There was a towel at the footboard of the bed and most of all a lack of Dawn. It was definitely that last part that Dan found least agreeable.
Dan slowly climbed out of Dawn’s bed and began and stretched as he took the towel and plodded over to the door, stepping through and being greeted by a happy bark from Chewy who was sat chewing on a toy bone.
"Oh nice of you to join us Mr Moprhy," Dawn called up the stairs as she appeared around the corner at the bottom.
"Sorry, I'm too used to my lie-ins,"
"Well you missed breakfast, and Chewy's walk, but if you get showered and ready I'll have lunch all packed."
"Oh wow how long was I out for?
"It doesn't matter, I'll forgive you...this time," Dawn says with a grin. Dan nods and laughs as he turns to the door he believed was the bathroom. "Oh and Dan."
"Yeah?"
"Not that I'm against it, but you might want to rethink those boxers, some girls like a little left to the imagination."
Dan looked confused for a moment, before glancing down and seeing that the boxers from yesterday were still opened wide and leaving him flapping in the breeze. He let out a hearty chuckle as he headed towards the bathroom and got ready for the day. Sparing a few minutes to shave the stubble which Dawn had mocked him for in bed that morning.
When Dan finally joined Dawn downstairs, he saw that Dan had picked out another Dress and what seemed to be Nylons again. The Dress was a nice black dress which nicely contrasted her pale complexion. The dress seemed shorter if Dan was any judge as he seemed to be able to make out more of her nice long legs. Seeing how nice she looked made Dan feel guilty for slumming it in a T-shirt, Hoddy and the same jeans as yesterday.
"Morning." Dan offers as he watched Dawn move back and forth between a basket on the kitchen table and the fridge.
"Closer to the afternoon, but technically still morning." Dawn replies with a giggle.
"I like your dress."
"Oh, Thanks, I was worried it might be a bit too formal for our walk, but I'm sure it'll do fine."
"A walk, which would make that a picnic basket."
"It sure does, I figured with it being at least dry today it might be nice to go for a nice walk, and stop for a picnic out in country."
"Sounds nice and romantic."
"Oh yeah, we'll be sat holding hands and recounting about that time you pissed out a window for me." Dawn replies with a grin.
"Well most guys try and impress a girl by winning them something at a fun fair, but what can I say, I like to do things differently," Dan replies with a chuckle as the pair of them laugh for a few seconds.
"Right, that should be everything," Dawn says as she closes the lid of the basket. "It's only a short drive away, so help me carry this to the car." Dawn continues.
Dan helps Dawn share the weight, of the surprisingly heavy picnic basket, and the pair carries it to the boot, only stopping long enough for Dawn to leave Chewy some food and to put on her cardigan.
"Wait there still isn't any fuel is there?"
"I walked down and got some while I was walking Chewy."
"Oh, so no rescue by a tractor this trip?"
"Not unless you really want one."
"No, I'm good. I'm better than good."
"Oh, and why's that then?" Dawn asks coyly
"Well, I've got you," Dan replies with a warm smile as Dawn's pale complexion takes on a scarlet hue.
"Thanks." Dawn replies continuing to blush and smile with her eyes meeting Dan's.
"I mean you're much better company than that farmer for one, and much prettier too." Dan continues as his soft smile turns into a mischevious grin.
"Ah, there's that other side of you that I missed," Dawn says with a sigh, shaking her head and letting out a laugh, as she starts the engine. "For that joke, I'm subjecting you to more folk music till we get there." Dawn continues as she starts the CD.
Dawn set off toward as the sounds of bagpiping and Dan's groaning filled the car, with Dawn grinning ear to ear. She enjoyed spending time with him, not just when their bodies were entwined like last night, but also moments like this. She didn't want to get ahead of herself, but she definitely felt better about Dan than anyone else she had tried to get close to.
~
"Ok, we're here," Dawn announces cheerfully as she switches off the engine.
"Oh thank god, are my ears bleeding?"
"Don't be such a baby, it's not that bad." Dawn replies, getting out of the car and surveying the wonderful greens and browns of the surrounding forests and fields. The sweet scent of pine in the fresh cold air taking Dawn down a happy nostalgic memory of happier times with her parents.
Dan hoisted the basket out of the boot of the car and walked over to Dawn who had her eyes closed, swaying slightly with the breeze. He slowly walked over to her, admiring her soft doll-like features and couldn't resist leaning in and kissing her soft lips. The act surprised Dawn for a moment, but she quickly smiled and kissed Dan back.
"Shall we Miss Jones?" Dan asks as he switched the basket to his left hand and offers his right hand for Dawn to hold.
"Lets," Dawn replies with a giggle as she takes Dan's hand and begins to lead on down the forest path. Enjoying the wonderful peaceful atmosphere of the tall trees with the wind rustling the thick canopies of the evergreens, while the naked branches of the less fortunate tree's creaked and swayed under the winds effort.
Dan was enjoying the walk, feeling Dawn's warm soft hand connected with his as he took in the sights that nature had on display today. There was something he was dying to ask about though, something he'd been trying to work up the nerve to ask her since he got up. Every time he went to ask, his eyes would fix on another aspect of Dawn which he found himself falling in love with, and he got scared of ruining the moment.
The pair walked silently through the forest path, not passing a single soul as they shared the scenery together. Both Dan and Dawn wanted to say something but found themselves not wanting to disturb the silence and enjoying the moment together.
Finally, Dan broke the enjoyable silence as the basket in his left hand began to ache more than he could ignore. "Jeez, how much did you pack?"
"Just a few picnic essentials and a blanket."
"Well is it ok if I set it down a minute?"
"Sure, this looks like a nice spot anyway." Dawn answers with a warm smile as the pair emerge from the overshadowed path and into a nice clearing.
Dan lowers the picnic basket to the floor and slowly walks forward looking at the wonderful vista before him. "It's beautiful out here," Dan says softly, turning his view upward and admiring the pale blue sky with only the odd fluffy cloud interrupting it.
"Yeah, My parents used to bring me up here when I was younger."
"I can see why. A beautiful place, for a beautiful girl."
Dawn begins to blush again as she opens up the basket and pulls out a thick woollen blanket with a tartan pattern on it, and places it on the ground and taking a seat on it. Dan looks back and smiles, walking over to join Dawn. He takes his place next to her, and Dawn rests her head on his shoulder.
"It's perfect," Dawn says softly as she moves a hand onto Dan's
"Honestly, I couldn't have pictured it better in my dreams," Dan replies, gently caressing Dawn's soft fingers with his hand. They enjoy another tender moment in nature, the chill wind begins to pick up slightly.
"So do you want to talk about last night?" Dawn finally asks hesitantly.
"Yes, but I wasn't sure how to word it yet."
"What's there to word?"
"Dunno figured, one of the best if not the best night of my life might deserve some fitting words."
"Those words seemed to work well," Dawn says softly her pale complexion reddening slightly more as she smiles.
"Yeah, I guess they did sound alright," Dan replies with a chuckle as he continues to stroke Dawn's hand.
"Dan...."
"Dawn..." The pair began simultaneously
"No, you first." The continued with a giggle before Dawn points to Dan to tell him to go first.
"Dawn.... I just wanted to say that I..... I've loved the time we've had together, and that I.... that you make me....I really...." Dan begins, his nerves beginning to set it quite badly as he tries to word his feelings.
"It's Ok Dan," Dawn says in a soft warming tone. "I feel the same." Dawn continues as she giggles at Dan.
"You do?"
"Of course I do, you pillock."
Now it was Dans time to blush as he rubs at the back of his neck. "I'm really glad I worked up the courage to talk to you that first lecture, being around you makes the world feel like it makes a little more sense." Dan finally says after a few seconds of trying to find the words.
"Thanks." Dawn replies as her cheeks find a newer darker shade of red to sample on her face. "Dan, having you around me makes the world feel warmer and happier." Dawn continues as she looks up into Dan's eyes.
"I've run out of nice and beautiful things to say about how you make me feel, So can I kiss you instead?"
"What are you waiting for Mr Morphy?"
With that the pair turned to each other and moved their mouths together, their soft lips caressing one and other as they began to kiss. It was different than yesterday or the day before, somehow everything felt better and more right. The pair spent the next few minutes with their lips locked together, until nature decided to remind them of the time of year.
"You know how I said you make me feel warmer with you around?"
"Not quite warm enough?"
"No, that wind is far too cold."
"What should we do?"
"We need to find somewhere more sheltered to finish this and our Picknick." Dawn says, moving back away from Dan.
Where will they go?
