Chapter 4 by jw_wjw jw_wjw

What's next?

A risqué wedding

Selena started her final year of law school with a ring from her loving boyfriend of God knows how many years, George Beaucorps. The handsome hunk had just moved to the US from Montreal on the first day of senior year of high school when he bumped into the inadvertently-commando Selena. The two hit it off immediately, and George had nursed her ... desires to shed the cloth inhibitions that her family and especially her mother had imposed on her, throughout not only senior year but also college and even the beginnings of the law-school career that her new adventurous side had led her towards. Selena repaid him the favor, helping him improve his English and introduce him to all her friends and classmates and colleagues and contacts to jumpstart his career.

Selena glided right through the grueling last year of law school on cloud nine as she and George discussed their engagement in between her papers and theses and bar exam scheduling and law firm applications. Her parents had really been insistent that the two get married at the stuffy Presbyterian church she had always known and grudgingly attended services with the avuncular pastor McNaughton. But she knew, in her heart of hearts, that McNaughton and his old puritanical church with four white walls and a single bare cross could never inject the joy needed for a wedding, much less to any children the two would have. After George gave her a tour of the stone cathedral of St. Francis, Selena knew right then and there where the wedding was held. Over her parents' strenuous whining, the wedding was set at St. Francis for the week after Selena was scheduled to be admitted to the bar.

Speaking of her parents, she knew they wouldn't like her newfound passion, and didn't think that she could go far in terms of a wedding dress, but she had other plans to make the day special...

Selena could hardly hold back tears as her father walked her down the aisle with a stone expression as George was waiting at the altar. At the end, waiting to officiate, was a man a couple years out of the seminary, Father Émile Max. He wasn't the normal priest for weddings at St. Francis, but he tended to George's parish and George explicitly recommended him for the task.

Eventually George and Selena faced each other and Father Max began.

"Do you, George André-Louis Beaucorps, take this woman, Selena Mary Luna, to be your wife, promise to be faithful to her, in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, to love her and to honor her all the days of your life?"

"I do."

"And do you, Selena Mary Luna, take this man, George André-Louis Beaucorps, to be your husband, promise to be faithful to him, in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, to love him and to honor him all the days of your life?"

Selena nodded with both tears in her eyes and a smirk at how her parents must have felt in that moment.

"I do."

"In the sight of God and these witnesses, I now pronounce you husband and wife! You may now kiss!"

With that, George and Selena couldn't help but almost charge at each other, grabbing each other's heads as their tongues started jousting. Selena's parents were already fuming, and now they had another reason to protest the show.

What's so ... different about this wedding?
