A normal day

As strange as it seems, the next day is a bit of a return to normal, or as normal as can be expected with Emi and Lili. You have to go back to work, and Emi assures you that she’ll be fine, though she’s a bit more subdued than she has been lately. Lili is upbeat as always, promising to keep an eye on Emi for you. With some ****, you decide that everything will be fine, and head out the door.

Your work day is somewhat routine, as you’re somewhat on autopilot, just going through the motions. Fortunately, no one seems to notice, and you don’t need to explain to anyone. You spend your lunch break on the phone with Sam, explaining to her what happened. She is understandably upset, but also understanding. In the end, she agrees that you made the right choice, and invites herself over for dinner tonight. It’s not until you hang up and head back to work that you realize that she did it, and you chuckle at her ability to simply take control.

You run into your coworker Jane later in the day. She grins as she approaches you. “Hey, Andy, how’s life treating ya? You getting along with that harpy of yours?”

You smile at her. “Very much so, yeah. Lili can be…a lot, but I can’t imagine not having her around.”

Jane nods. “I know what you mean. Sean is great, even if he eats twice as much as I do!”

You chuckle, thinking of the gigantic bull man Hybrid that she has. “I suppose so, he is awfully big.”

Jane grins and winks. “If only you knew…”

You roll your eyes. “Too much information, Jane.”

She laughs. “Oh please, you can’t fool me, mister ‘I have a sex obsessed harpy’. I know just as well as you do what those markings mean!”

You blush, shrugging. “I suppose that’s fair. But Lili is more than just a bedmate, you know?”

Jane nods. “Yeah, but it’s fun to tease. Hey, we should hang out sometime. You still with that girl, what’s her name…Emi, right?”

You smile. “Yeah, it’s the three of us. Not a bad situation.”

She grins. “I’ll bet. Living the good life, hmm?”

You laugh. “Yeah, I can’t complain.”

Jane nods, then glances over her shoulder. “Well, I should get back to work. Don’t be a stranger, yeah?”

You nod. “Yeah. See you around, Jane.”

With that, you both head back to work. Though it was a relatively mundane conversation, it actually felt good to talk casually about your little family. You feel a bit better, coming out of your funk a little bit. It’s amazing what a friendly conversation can do.
