Chapter 35 by Vain Vain

Does Zack find out...? Or on to the next morning?

A new day, with Ashley and Vicky

Eventually the sun started rising over the horizon and bathed the landscape in light. For various reasons it even got pretty far up on the sky before anyone noticed in the little cabin below, and the first ones to wake up were all rather tired as they started to shamble around for the loo or for something to eat.

Breakfast was easily fixed at least with all the stuff in the fridge, and it was pretty much each to themselves as none wanted to wake up another for company, meaning that they'd all be eating on their own or possibly in pairs...

Ashley was one of the first to get out of her bed, though someone must've been visiting the loo right before her, and she was actually rather grateful for the warmed up seat when she managed to drag herself out there. Whoever it'd been was nowhere in sight however, for which she was also very thankful.

It'd been an awkward long night for her, and even if she'd managed to get some sleep she'd woken up several times and not been able immediately fall asleep again. Thoughts of Kurt, Brandon, and Heather was still plaguing her mind while she carried out her business and then headed for the kitchen to grab something to eat.

On the way there she met up with Vicky though, who looked only slightly less tired than she was feeling herself. While the two of them were usually very happy to see each other, today didn't seem quite like usual at all - with both of them halting momentarily in their tracks upon seeing one another, before stiffly and halfheartedly wishing the other a good morning.

Ashley had the obvious reason for wanting to be alone of course, but she couldn't quite figure why her friend was suddenly acting like that after trying so hard to talk to her the last evening. And then it struck her, with painful clarity, that her best friend too might well have suffered the same fate as herself in the claws of that guy she was sharing a room with.

Just the though of Kurt managing to get under both of their skins made her heart freeze cold, and she'd suddenly lost all her appetite. So instead of eating she just slipped out of the cabin to the backside, and found the small wooden bench that Vicky had shared with Gavin the evening before.

It wasn't long before her friend found her way back there as well though, and again they just looked at each other with growing suspicion in their minds. It wouldn't be right just to back out and leave though, so they both ended up sitting on that small bench and staring out over the lake which could just barely be seen between the trees.

"I'm sorry..." Ashley was finally the first one to say something, though she really didn't know what to speak about at all. She couldn't just ask Vicky about Kurt, without revealing something on her own. "I... didn't feel very well yesterday."

"That's ok." Victoria just nodded slowly, and even managed a weak smile. "I'm a bit down myself I guess. Didn't get much sleep tonight either..."

"Oh...?" Her friend dared a quick glance at her sideways, while fearing her suspicions were about to be confirmed. Vicky didn't look like one who'd been having wild time all night however, and she felt herself slowly relax again. "Me neither..."

Does she fail to keep her secrets...? Or on to someone else?
