A new boy joins

The daycare center was filled with the usual sounds of play and laughter when the door swung open, revealing a new arrival. He was a young man, around 25 years old, his demeanor radiating discontent. He wore nothing but a plain t-shirt and a diaper, a stark contrast to the anger expressed in his face. As he entered, his eyes narrowed in obvious displeasure. He scanned the room, taking in the sight of adults engaged in activities one might associate with infants. The scowl on his face deepened, and it was clear that he was far from pleased to be here. Paulette, always welcoming and empathetic, noticed the newcomer's distress and approached him with a friendly smile. "Hi there, I'm Paulette. It's nice to meet you. What's your name?"

The young man, however, didn't seem interested in pleasantries. He scowled at Paulette and snapped, "I don't care who you are. I don't even want to be here." Paulette remained composed, recognizing that he was likely experiencing a great deal of anxiety. "I understand that this might be challenging at first," she said gently, "But we're all here to support each other. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask."

The new boy's response was far from polite. He shot Paulette a glare, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "Oh, how wonderful. A bunch of grown-ups playing babies. Just what I needed." Despite his rudeness, Paulette and Anna remained patient, understanding that his reaction was likely rooted in discomfort and uncertainty. They exchanged a knowing glance, silently vowing to find a way to help him adjust to this unfamiliar environment. Anna, undeterred by his rudeness, replied with kindness, "I used to feel the same way, but it's helped me a lot. Maybe it could help you too." The newcomer scoffed dismissively and plopped down on a nearby mat, clearly sulking. His hostility hung in the air, creating an uncomfortable tension in the room.

Anna and Paulette decided to engage in an activity to ease the tension in the room. They gathered some art supplies and started drawing colorful pictures on large sheets of paper, sitting together on the floor. As the minutes passed, the tension in the room seemed to ease a bit. The new boy, however, remained focused on his own thoughts and didn't pay much attention to the babies immersed in their artwork. Unbeknownst to him, the diaper he had been wearing was gradually becoming heavier and more sagged as it absorbed a wetting. Anna and Paulette continued to draw, occasionally sharing smiles and encouraging words as they created their colorful masterpieces. They had just started to feel a sense of accomplishment in their artwork and the newfound serenity in the room when suddenly, a blood-curdling scream pierced the air.

Startled, Anna and Paulette dropped their crayons and rushed to the side of the new boy. His face contorted in distress as he clutched at his wet diaper, realizing what had just happened. The room fell silent as everyone turned their attention to the source of the commotion. In that moment, the therapy daycare was faced with a challenge it had encountered before – helping an unwilling participant come to terms with the reality of their situation and the support offered by the community.
