Chapter 4
by NicoDezelar258
What resides in this cave?
A mountain top
Terrence made his way into the cave, instantly noticing the slight uphill slope. Further up the mountain, an exit allowed light to shine into the passageway.
Terrence began his way up the slope, scimitars ready for anything that might attack. Not even twenty steps in, a goblin scout jumped from the shadows, landing a cut on his right thigh. A normal cut wouldn't faze the Mountain, but goblin blades were always poisoned. A second later, a symbol appeared beside his name showing a strength reduction poison had been used.
The goblin sounded his horn right before Terrence sliced through its neck. The horn was still echoing through the passageway when Terrence heard them coming from everywhere. Hundreds of little feet slapping against rock. A moment later, an arrow shot out of the wall, striking him in his chest. His armor took most of the beating, but the arrow narrowly missed a kink in his armor. An inch more, and he would have had to worry about two poisons in his systems.
Soon after, goblins began to crawl out of their hidden tunnels, pouring out into the passageway. Immediately Terrance began to cut through them, bodies piling up on both sides and blood pooling on the floor.
Growling deeply under his breath, he watched as for every one he killed, three more replaced it. The fight and poisons had nearly wiped his strength, but hidden in his gauntlets were two gems, each of which contained a nearly infinite source of strength. Called Power Wells, Terrence had been storing his excess strength for months.
Growling as yet another arrow pierced his side and a sword burying into his leg, he grasped for a spell. "Earth's Rage!" he yelled out as he smashed his hands down onto the floor, a symbol glowing beneath him. Soon screams sounded throughout the passage as the goblin's tunnels reformed into solid stone. Pillars of stone shot out of the ground, spearing through many of the goblins that were still alive. Out of what might have been a **** of 600, only 50 now remained.
Although the spell was devastating to his enemies, the amount of power and strength had emtied both of his Wells. Barely able to stand on both feet, he quickly dispatched another twenty goblins, the others fleeing back to their den. As soon as those were out of the zone, a ding sounded through Terrence's head as the exp and loot were instantly gathered. Stumbling towards the exit, he continued to be affected by the poisons in his system.
As he exited the tunnel, the first thing he saw was how high he was. He had just climbed all the way to the top of Mount Henso, the tallest mountain in the Thobal mountains. Exhausted and barely able to breathe, Terrence slide down, resting against the rock face. Slowly, his eyes began to drift closed. Right before his eyes closed, he noticed something with wings flying towards him.
What was it?
