Chapter 9 by fantaghiro fantaghiro

What's next?

A mostly normal viewing, with some flirting

You felt strangely comfortable watching the movie with her. For the most part you could pretend that you were with your mother. But occasionally she would point something out about the movie or make an innuendo, and you would be reminded that she was in fact someone else. In fact, some of her comments almost seemed like flirtation - but you weren't sure if you were just reading into her behavior given that you had been thinking of her more and more.

As the credits rolled across the screen, she turned to you and said "Tim, I appreciate what you've done for me. I know lying to your family - as well as the bigger lie to everyone else - can't be easy. And I'm sure you miss your mom." She took your hand in hers. "I want you to know how much that means - how much YOU mean to me."

She shifted a little, whether nervous or just trying to get more comfortable. "I've grown to care for all of you. David and Tabby are great kids, and I guess I'm building a real relationship with Paul. He's a good man, and pleasant partner. But you're the only one who knows me, the real me."

She paused for a moment before continuing. "You know that you're only a few years younger than me. Than my real age, I mean. I was only 24." She sighed. "I've lost my youth and my old life. I don't regret it," she hastened to add. "I'm grateful for your mom's sacrifice, and for the life I have now. But I need more. I need to have a real connection - with someone who understands me."

You met her gaze and saw a very real need in her eyes. Almost a desperation.

Her voice became so soft you could barely hear her. "In the eyes of the world you're my son now. But I want...I need more."
