Chapter 8

What’s the last display?

A living room?

“It’s… just a room?” Molly said, sounding befuddled.

At the area marked for the final display, the wall receded back, and what seemed to be a model of an old 80’s era living room was built within. Save for numerous differently shaped metal panels on the walls and the ceiling, nothing seemed out of the norm.

“The Auto-House,” the intercom suddenly began speaking again, though only through a speaker in the display room. Both Nora and Molly jumped at the sudden break in silence. “is considered to be the original concept for smart-devices, conceived by Dr. Hugo Pervati. This functional model is the only prototype he ever created. It was gifted to the museum by his great-granddaughter, claiming it was to much of a burden to keep around.”

“Wait, this thing actually works?” Nora said.

“This, FUNCTIONAL, model…” the robo-woman began her spiel again, emphasizing the word “functional.” Nora rolled her eyes, ignoring the rude computer lady. Once completing her previous speech, she continued. “Guest of the museum who wish to experience yesterdays future may step inside and press the large red button located on the display television. That’s the large red one. On the television. Only an imbecile could miss it.”

“That has to be a real person watching us, right?” Nora said.

“Probably.” Molly said. “Shall we?”

Nora looked ahead nervously. It seemed interesting, and would certainly make for a good addition to their report.

Do they use the Auto-House?
