Chapter 25 by Yabusa Yabusa

What does the colonel want with you?

A little fashion show

Colonel McCabe was a rough but sturdy-looking man, like under his skin he was just a pile of rocks that gained sentience. Scars and broad shoulders gave you the impression that this man didn't enjoy sitting behind a desk. And he wasn't really sure what to make of you when you entered behind Lieutenant Collins.

"I thought you said you were gonna bring me a demonstration?" McCabe said, with a heavy drawl in his words. "Not a pretty lady from High-Decky to, what, smooth talk me into some more money?" As you stood in front of his desk, he looked you up and down, naturally able to appreciate a sexy body in a tight blue dress. "You look like one of them ladies on those websites my grandson visits that he thinks no one knows he looks at."

You took a deep breath. This was not going to be a fun chat if you didn't do something soon, but you waited for Collins to speak.

"Sir, this woman isn't just here to talk about Project Inside out. She is the demonstration. She is... basically the culmination of the entire project."

"Bullshit." The Colonel stood up, leaning over his desk as he squinted at you. "I've seen photos, she ain't a space pilot nor a future soldier. I'm a busy man, Lieutenant, I don't like--"

You began to shift and morph, standing still. Your body orchestrated a ballet of changes, where under your blue dress, your Zoe suit opened up, while your Tina suit swapped out exteriors. The dress melted away into your armor, and you stood before Colonel McCabe wearing the armored flight suit from the neck down. Your expression never changed as you stared at him, almost feeling like your time was wasted being here, not theirs.

The Colonel quieted down, shocked by seeing something no normal human could do, as he looked at your shiny blue exterior underneath your snowy white hair. "...Shame you don't come in olive green."

You made some trivial adjustments, and your suit's color seemed to alter hue without even making much of an attempt, assuming a matte olive color, while your nanobots covered the armor in text and logos that looked suitably military. Your hair shortened drastically, until you had this cute short cut with your hair styled up, a little messy and spiky. You stepped a little closer, spinning around as you put your hand on your hips. "I'm every component of Project Inside Out, rolled into one. The only reason I'm here today is because I was able to unify the project, while the scientists working on the latest iteration forgot about the previous experiments. But in order to advance the program for human-usable nanites and exosuits, I'm the person to fine-tune it."

The Colonel sat back down in his chair. "Do that thing again. Go back to being that sexy website girl again."

You rolled your eyes, but if this was how you were going to earn that big contract, so be it. Your bodysuit and exosuit exteriors swapped, as slime wrapped around you, in a light blue fabric as your hair spilled down your shoulders. This time, however, you formed your fabric into a revealing bikini, shimmying your hips back and forth a little. Neither Collins nor McCabe could take their eyes off you, as you stood with your hands behind your back, deciding to move things along. "I believe I was here to participate in some tests? Lap dances cost extra, but I'll let you choose the hair color on the house."

McCabe picked up on your sarcasm, Collins seemed ready to pounce you then and there from what you were putting out but McCabe waved him off before his hands reached your body. "You can entertain the men later when they're off-duty. But we can get the X-63 up in the air. And then to low earth orbit. You'll ride shotgun with Captain Lancer, show that you're capable of using that suit of yours in LEO and reduced gravity and we'll have a chat with the director when you're back on the ground.

You kept your expression firm, but on the inside you were ready to burst with excitement. You were going to travel to space! Just to show off that your suit was indeed viable for what it was intended, though you had no doubt there that they'd get all the data they wanted. You fidgeted a bit while the Colonel made some calls, and in a few minutes, your pilot for the X-63 arrived.

Captain Kelly Lancer was beautiful, even in military fatigues. She had deep green eyes, her blonde hair back in a ponytail, and while your assessment of her body was obstructed by the fatigues, a sturdy, strong body. You were able to replicate all kinds of tough-girl looks, but she was the real deal, and you absolutely wanted to get to know her better. You got the sense that Captain Lancer was herself curious about you, although you were sitting around in a blue bikini still so she may have been more amused than interested. Still, you were going to share a flight with her with nobody else on board. What more ideal of a scenario was there to get to know someone, drifting with them miles from the surface of the earth?

There was still some prep time to go, and time to kill on the ground while the X-63, whatever sort of aircraft that was, fueled up and went through pre-launch prep. As you left the Colonel's office, you had two options: follow Collins, who seemed ready at any moment to have his way with you--and maybe a bit of pre-flight playtime would ease some of these butterflies in your stomach, since spaceflight felt like such an incredible undertaking. Or, you could go with Lancer, to prep for the flight and get a jump start on knowing her a bit better.

Which officer do you follow?
