A home-cooked dinner

"I find your human apartments to be quite delightful. Smaller than the castles and mansions I am used to, but it is nice in it's own way." Lorraine complimented Oscar's apartment as she came out of her room, giving him a genuine smile.

"Glad to hear it. Now it's time for dinner. Do you have the concept of dinner in your world? Or time?" Oscar got up and spoke to Lorraine, trying to find common ground and hoping a good meal is the one constant that linked the human world and the monster world at the very least.

"Most of the more animalistic monster girls use the passing of what you humans call the "sun" in the sky to indicate day or night. For the more sentient monster girls, they use clocks and calculate time, though there are some differences in the unit of measurement or how it is depicted. Nevertheless, I've taken the initiative to learn about the human time system." Lorraine explained, "As for dinner, we also call it a different name, but yes. Spirits that only maintain partial form suck the life out of other beings as sustenance or absorb the essence, which you humans call "flavour", out of cooked food. For higher spirits able to attain physical form, they can eat normally."

"Great. Then follow me. We'll be going to the nearby supermarket to get some ingredients. I'm giving you a nice cooked meal tonight, hope you're hungry." Oscar talked while he unlocked the door.

The trip to the supermarket was overall uneventful, with Lorraine's dignified way of carrying herself sticking out a bit in a sea of commoners (both human and monstergirl) yet never coming across as snobby. She helped Oscar push the cart, finding it a bit fun as she let out a little chortle to express amusement. When Oscar went to the vegetable and fruits section, Lorraine commented about how different it all was, with statements like "Do they really not sell dragon meat? Odd!", "We have something like this, yet purple and with eyes", and more.

Afterwards, Oscar dumped the plastic bags into the kitchen, leaving Lorraine to watch some fancy opera on TV while he started to cook. A nice smell started to waft from the stove after a while, Oscar working his cooking magic after dumping broth and meat inside a large pot, stirring the ingredients.

"Alright. Dinner's ready!" Oscar placed the pot in the middle of the wooden table, with two plates on opposite sides.

"It's stew with mashed potatoes and peas. A simple meal yet quite filling. Used to have it all the time as a kid." Oscar described as he waved a hand over his cooking, mentioning the pot containing thick brown stew with meat and garnishing along with the smooth mashed potatoes and tiny round peas on the plates.

"Looks delicious!" Lorraine's aristocrat behaviour melted away for a moment as she gave her honest thoughts, stars practically forming in her blue intense eyes as her mouth opened wide, watering with anticipation.

"Then dig in!" Oscar smiled, scooping some stew with a common spoon onto his plate while Lorraine did the same afterwards, each of them using their utensils to scoop a nice portion of the meal before biting down, chewing as the taste settled on their tongues...
