A heart to heart

"W-well..." Ruby began, a bit bashfully "We were just talking and uh..."

Jaune was kind of surprised. He figured Ruby could be like this, but she always seemed so high-energy. This was the first time he'd seen her be so timid... so he jumped in to help her.

"We were talking about being selected as our team leaders."

"I see." Ozpin said with a smile. "I assume you're wondering why I made the two of you leaders?"

"Pretty much, yeah." Jaune said.

Ozpin looked to Ruby first.

"Miss Rose. You might think that you are unworthy of leadership. Especially compared to your team members in particular. But I do not agree. You are young, you are child-like. But you are also firm in your beliefs, of a keen mind, always fair, and able to take charge. Can the same be said for the rest of your team?"

Ruby sat in silence. But Jaune could tell just from her body language that she believed Ozpin was correct.

"And Mr. Arc. You may feel as though being a leader has made a target on your back. But I don't think you truly believe you are unworthy of leading. In fact, I've noticed a significant change in you since even yesterday. You're carrying yourself with more pride. And the girls on your team seem to have rallied around you. You are a natural leader." he nodded

"If only he knew" was all Jaune could think.

"If you have these thoughts, please do not fear sharing them. I am here for nothing if not to listen to the woes of our students." he said with a smile.

"Professor!" a voice called out. Jaune heard the clacking of heels on tile, as Glynda Goodwitch breezed up.

"Ah. Glynda. I apologize for my tardiness. But I needed to speak with these students."

Glynda turned towards them, adjusting her glasses.

"Ah. Mr. Arc. Miss Rose." she said with a bow "I apologize, but I must pull the Headmaster away for a meeting." She then stormed away again.

Ozpin bowed as well.

"As I said, feel free to come to me at any time with problems. Or Glynda, for that matter. She may be more brusque than I, but she's very level headed."

And with that, he walked off.

"...I need that woman too" was the prime thought filling Jaune's head.

"Did you believe him?" Ruby asked, bringing Jaune's mind back to the foreground.

"Hm? I guess so..."

Ruby looked up at him, her face no longer sullen.

"I did. I don't know why. But he's so comforting. He's like a grandpa" she giggled. "Anyway, come on!" she said, beginning to walk off.
