A hard pass

You watched from the corner of your eye to see if Jess would accept your help. Still, after scanning what you had written, she turned back to her work and blanked you, not even looking your way to say no. Part of you was just hoping she would say yes to relieve you of your boredom but that sadly didn’t come to fruition. Given that she ignored you, you deemed it wise to not ask her any further questions and sat back in your chair to relax. You could now say that you were the one who had tried to reach out to her if Sarah ever asked so now all you could do was leave her alone if you didn’t want to come off as too forward.

The rest of the lesson passed silently between the two of you before the bell rang, Jess continued to work on her sheet while you used the time to run over a few of your KDK plans and organise some of your worries.

You didn’t want to plan your days too far in advance or your time with the subjects would become too structured, ruining some of the excitement that came with spontaneous events. That being said, revealing Emma’s secret to anyone was something you deemed necessary to plan for and while the stuff with your father wasn’t KDK-related, it could change things depending on what you might find at the weekend.

Thinking about him always spoiled your mood but you shook your head to clear your thoughts as you left the classroom, saying goodbye to Sarah when you saw her hanging around in the corridor. To improve your mood slightly, you took a quick detour towards the nearest bathroom.

You went inside to find the room completely empty now that everyone was rushing home, still finding a stall and locking it behind you while you reached into your pocket to grab your phone.

You were only expecting to see your progress with Rebecca to give yourself a goal of how far you had to take things with her for the level up but your curiosity had now been piqued as to what now awaited you.

It looked like this one came with no special effect but by this point, any extra points were appreciated. The ‘genuinely’ comment seemed out of place at first but you were pretty sure Sarah had sarcastically made comments like that when you asked her to do something.

The achievement, although simple, did improve your mood so a quick check of Rebecca’s page was all you needed to do now.

With your mind set, you left the bathroom and headed up towards Rebecca’s office with a renewed outlook on the situation. You reached her office and knocked on the door, waiting for a response to see if she had actually made it here before you.

“Come in” Rebecca said from inside.

One last final deep breath and you opened the door to start actually enacting your plan, only to be stopped unexpectedly at the first hurdle when you saw someone sitting in the chair opposite Rebecca.

“Oh Hey again” Sarah greeted, looking confused as to why you were here and your expression was probably the same.

“Hey…” you replied, quickly scanning the room to see if there was anything you needed to be worried about.

You quickly calmed down once you saw the textbook for Rebecca’s class on her desk and Sarah’s notes alongside them, Rebecca giving you an apologetic smile as you realised Sarah had come here for some extra help.

“With the studying we were doing last night I realised I should probably ask some of the teachers instead of relying on you. Why are you here by the way, I would have thought you’d be walking home with Emma by now?” Sarah asked after explaining her reasoning, hinting at Emma without knowing what you had been planning.

A quick look to Rebecca showed that she was blushing and trying to hide her face in case Sarah turned around, more focused on what you were going to say instead of the fact that Emma’s name was mentioned. Luckily Sarah’s attention was solely on you for the moment and you already had an excuse ready to give while Rebecca tried to calm herself down.

“Well I couldn’t get hold of the principal so I thought to go to the next best person” you replied, fishing Sarah’s note from Mary out of your bag, being careful not to reveal the handcuffs also in there, and held up the note for both of them to see.

Sarah’s face lit up as she realised you were staying true to your word but Rebecca was now the one to be confused, giving you the chance to continue.

“This needs a bit of backstory but Sarah had her phone taken off her by none other than your favourite person” you explained.

“Ahh right” Rebecca answered in understanding.

“Both of us have tried to track her down, Sarah with her note from Mom and when I ran into her earlier… I didn’t think it was the best time to ask her if you remember… So anyway, if we have a permission slip, would you be able to help get her phone back? I’d owe you one” you asked, only Rebecca hearing the emphasis on owing her a favour.

Sarah turned back to Rebecca at this point and you were sure her puppy dog eyes were showing, making it easier to convince her.

“Sure I can help. Here pass me that note” Rebecca replied, having you hand it over while she quickly scanned through it.

“Yep I don’t see any issue. Your lucky Max came to me as I think I’m the only one with a spare key to her office…somewhere around here” Rebecca continued, rummaging around her desk drawers.

“Ah here it is, I won’t be a minute” Rebecca said, holding up a lone key before she got up and headed to the door.

Rebecca firmly shut the door behind her and left just you and Sarah alone in her office, letting you walk up to the desk and turn around to lean against it, facing Sarah and seeing a slightly guilty expression on her face.

“You were planning something and I’ve got in the way haven’t I?” Sarah asked, hitting the nail on the head.

You didn’t see any harm in telling Sarah as she was in nearly just as deep as you and Emma when it came to your harem plan but you still considered how much you should give away or maybe if she could actually help you out while she was here.
