A guy in dire need of money

"I need to do something, and do it fast" Jay thought as he read for the umpteenth time the letter he had found in his mail box. After he'd lost his job, life had taken a very sharp turn for the worse for Jay. He hadn't been able to find a new job he liked and now, after not paying his rent in time, he was about to be evicted.

He needed to find a way to avoid it. The town he lived in was a small one, so everyone knew everyone. If the news that he had been evicted for not paying got out, the other landlords would never rent him their apartment.

But how could he find so much money in such short order? He was jobless!

His gave fell on the silver ring resting on his bedside table. He had found it somewhere, but he couldn't remember where. It was just a plain band of silver, but it surely was worth something, right? If he sold it...

He shook his head, selling his possessions should be his last resort. He took the ring and put it on anyway, better to have it with him if he decided to sell it.

Then he took his phone and scrolled through his contacts until he found Mark, one of his friends. Maybe he had a job for him?
