Chapter 68 by yamidamian
Now, that to do about this slightly more humanoid bambi scene?
A fate delayed
With all the ruckus I had been making, it wasn't a particular surprise when I found a the girl slowly turning her attention to me at my final approach. The look she gave me...a complicated, pitiable expression. If I had to put it in words, it was one saying 'just get this over with while I'm too sad to care.' However, such would not be her fate. Having just cheat the reaper myself, I was feeling on the generous side towards my fellow wounded sapients.
As I double checked to make sure the mother was actually dead, and not merely mortally wounded, I also ponder what I might do. Ultimately, I didn't have a horse in this race. Merely saving her from the same fate is more than enough on my part. And yet, I felt compelled to do more. If there's a mother and daughter, presumably there would be others. Had a pretty sweet thing going on back at those farms-maybe I can setup something like that again?
Yep, dead as a doornail. So sadly, this wasn't something I could patch up with a simple healing spell. However, that's not to say I was completely useless. After all, I knew a bit of necromancy. **** wasn't the complete end of things. And so, I get to casting, the daughter looking on in some amount of worry. An expression that seems to fade away into absolute shock as her mother takes a ragged breath-a pure reflex that she doesn't need. I whisper to the new being softly "Remember what your body was." Hopefully, that would be enough to avoid any incidents for the creature until it de-animated.
At first, it appeared to be promising-eyes glazed over soon focusing to observe the world-and then, reaching out to hug her tearful daughter. I watch the tender reunion in silence before they finally disengage, both rising to their feet. The younger turned to me and asked "Is she-" "No." I cut her off before the could finish-already sure enough of her question. "The reaper will get his due-this is just temporary. In a day, he will come for what he's owed. Make the most of it."
And so, there was a somber note as they walked deeper into the forest. They gave no protest as I followed behind-as much from curiosity as to where they were going, as to make sure the creature that looks like a simple pale deertaur doesn't start attacking everything in sight. Sure, the wight was beholden to my commands, and my will to a degree, but it was still at it's core a life-hungry spirit shoved into a corpse, so there was some risk she abruptly starts chowing down on anything alive that wasn't me if I don't keep a close enough eye on her.
Where do we end up?
