A demonstration is easier than an explanation

Jess looked up from her hands to see Hunter carefully folding his pants over the back of his chair, then unbuttoning his shirt. Her eyes widened as she looked at him with confusion, tears still streaking her face.

"Hunter?" she asked in a quavering voice. "What...what are you doing?"

"I have to show you something Jess. You'd never believe if I just told you." Hunter saw that Lyndsey had turned to watch, her face still marked with guilt and shame. He didn't know what had got into the girl's head to confront Jess, but for the moment that could wait. It was vital that Jess understood, and the only way to make her understand was to demonstrate the change that had happened to him.

"Hunter? Oh my God you're naked! This is crazy!" Jess gasped, her face flushing with embarrassment. He didn't answer, but picked up the flash Dunnigan had given him and snapped it on, staring into it and willing the change to happen.

Once again he experienced the cramping and the blurring of vision, saw his hands changing and hair sprouting from his skin, his nails turning to claws. Felt his body shifting and changing, his face lengthening to a muzzle, the energy flowing through him, his heart hammering in his chest as he sank to the floor.

He stopped the change at the half human point as he had done the previous night, then rose to his haunches, his eyes staring at Jess who sat rooted to her chair, her hands clutching at the arms, her face a mask of shock and horror.
