A charm and a weapon.

John and Jack walked up to Toph, the little pangolin having just dragged the last boar onto the pile, a complete stack of all boars surrounded by dancing pebbles as Toph rubbed her little claws. She peeped happily at John as he squatted down to pat her. “Thanks, Toph, you did great.”

Toph nuzzled into his hand, clamping her body around his wrist, climbing up his arm as he stood back up. With Toph sitting on his left shoulder and Jack darting around, John proceeded to touch every boar on the pile. A large cloud of dust followed, the boars disappearing, and in their place he saw a few items. A pile of tusks, to be offered to Artemis, of course, a pile of leather, and a few juicy pork chops. John put away the items, tossing one of the pork chops to Jack. “Here, you earned it.”

Jack pounced upon the food, starting to tear into it as John felt a tug on his ear. A mournful peep from the pangolin on his shoulder. “You want one too, little girl?” John asked the pangolin. The critter nodded, rubbing her claws as John handed her a pork chop too.

John watched how the pangolin somehow managed to make the porkchop disappear within seconds, her tiny mouth nibbling faster than a buzzsaw as her claws spun the porkchop around; her tongue rolled out when she was done, cleaning up her claws, after which she let out a satisfied peep, then unsummoned herself, going to rest on John’s back in her tattoo form.

“Well then,” John mumbled, watching how Jack got the fur of his snout dyed crimson, the kitten pouncing onto his food more than once, walking away only to jump back and take another bite. John did not want to interrupt Jack’s meal, so he decided to take a look at his quest rewards.

Protec the Innocent
He protec, he attac, but most of all, he wants to keep his master in chec.
A rune inscribed brass band, made to fit most young pet’s limbs.
A charm that prevents fatal damage to a pet below level 10. This item binds to the pet it is used on and will shatter when he or she reaches level 10. When the equipped pet’s health would reach 0, it will instead be forcefully dismissed and won’t be available to be summoned for 6 hours.
John spun the brass ring around in his palm, tracing the runes with his fingertips. The runes were stylistic; they looked like ancient greek writing, or at least to him they did. ‘προτεχ’ it said, almost making John desire learning Greek to decode it. “Interesting, interesting,” he mumbled as he looked at the smooth edges, holding it up in the light. “Hmmm, Jack or Toph?” he asked himself, looking at Jack still eating, thinking of Toph on his back. Jack had to attack his enemies up close to be helpful, Toph prefered to hit them from afar, closer to him. It was a pretty easy choice, truth be told. “I’m gonna touch your tail for a second, boy,” he told him, stroking the fur on his tail before sliding the ring around it. Jack let out a small purr, looking at him as he moved his tail around, the ring sliding down to the base of his tail, where it slightly tightened, kept in place.

“There, now you won’t get killed before you are nice and strong,” John whispered, scratching the leopard kitten between his ears as he took his last few bites of the porkchop, mewing happily as he flicked John’s wrist with his tail.

John then looked at the second item he got, a new bow. He pulled it out of his inventory, placing his old bow next to it for comparison. His new bow was roughly ten centimeters longer than his old weapon. Where the wood of his old bow was a dark brown, the wood of his new bow was closer to pitch black than anything else. The handle of the new bow was wrapped in small leather straps where the old bow was plain. The biggest difference were the ends of the new bow; his old bow was just a straight piece of wood, but the new one curled away from him slightly. The bowstring was another minor difference; his old bow had a white and green string braided together, but his new bow’s string was a dull gray, a slight tremble going through it every so often.

Stalker’s Recurve
Damage: 7 + arrow damage
A black, polished tool for a hunter. The bow is made out of enchanted ebony wood, crafted by a bowyer in the service of Gaia. The string is woven from the mane of a kelpie, enchanted to withstand more tension.
Enchantment: Tension shot. Holding the bow fully drawn before shooting increases damage by 1 every 5 seconds, to a maximum of 3.
Requirements: Agility 20 Strength 10

John picked up the new bow, determined to try out the new weapon. He took an arrow from his quiver, loaded it onto the bow and pulled back; the first thing he noticed was that it was a bit tougher to draw the bow than it was with his old one. With just one point above the minimum requirements in strength, that was to be expected, however. He drew the bow to full crescent, holding it, feeling his muscles strain to keep the bow fully drawn. The drag on his arms increased with every second. When he counted to fifteen, he let the arrow fly; a loud twang followed, ans the arrow flew across the barrier, firmly lodging itself into his targeted tree, burrowing halfway into it before coming to a stop.

John rubbed his arms slightly, putting the old bow back into his inventory as he equipped the new bow into his primary weapon slot. “One more item I won’t have to pay Old Fred for I guess. It will take some getting used to, but I think this will be a great boon, thanks, Gaia!” John thanked the goddess as he saw Jack clean his paws, ready to head out as well.
