Chapter 17 by frogogre1 frogogre1

What happen in the penthouse come morning?

A change in priorities

Jim slept like the dead, as all the medication and his own body's natural healing process kept him weak and in need of extra sleep to get to a semi-functional level with all the permanent injuries he no longer has. Both Catwoman and Harley Quinn just watched him sleep peacefully for a little while enjoying the silence as they watched the man they owe. But as the men in their lives give him a new wound that will never heal, they both know no apology they give will ever be enough.

"So Harley, what's the plan here? What's next on the to-do list?" Catwoman asked Harley quietly, finally breaking the silence in the living room. Harley stared at Jim for a long moment, not answering the question, before she sighed and looked at Catwoman.

"I don't know Kitty." Harley said with a defeated sigh as she stared at the ceiling for a second. "If I'm being honest with you, I've just been going from hideout to hideout trying to get my poor Mr.J somewhere safe while the heat cools off, and instead the damn bars have been beaten in him like his a pinata." Harley said with a bit of venom.

"While Harley, you don't have to worry about the batboys here; they know better than to break into my house." Catwoman said with an undercurrent of danger. "But moving on from bats, sweetie, I think with all the injuries poor Mr.J, as you call him, has gotten, we are going to need to need a medical history, so if you don't mind." Catwoman said, nodding towards the coach where Jim was sleeping.

Harley nodded, and Catwoman made her way over and began to carefully go through all of Jim's pocket, finding his wallet with his card and ID, but considering his current status as accomplice to the joker, it was unlikely his family would give up any medical history if they needed it. No, what Catwoman was looking for was his phone, which would hopefully have his doctor's number in its contact list so she could track his medical files in case they needed anything.

Though she wasn't finding it anywhere on him. "Harvey, darling, do you have Jim's phone? I want to see if we can get his doctor from his contact list." Catwoman asked Harley, who shook her head no and tried to think about where the phone might be. It wasn't taken out at her hideout or the motel they hid in. Then it hit her: the only place his phone could have been taking was at the hospital, Dr. Pyg ran.

"I had to take poor Mr. J to that crazy doctor, Pyg. He probably took it; maybe it's a side gig steal from patients who are too messed up to remember." Harley said, gesturing towards Jim's rather extensive acid burn scars, as to why Dr. Pyg thought that he would be too messed up from his injuries to recall if he lost his phone at Dr. Pyg's place or not.

"While then you stay here, watch over our good Jim here while I head over to Piggy's and see if he has the goods." Catwoman said with a purr as she put her latex outfit on and went out a window and began to run across roof tops into the night. Harley got closer to Jim, making sure she was able to block any body trying to harm now that it was just her protecting him in the penthouse.

Meanwhile, as Catwoman made it across roof top to roof top, getting closer and closer to Dr. Pyg's hideout, a certain red head was watching her, unknown to her. She waited till Catwoman was far away from her penthouse and while on her way to the side of town where Dr. Pyg operated. Once she was sure Catwoman was far away and couldn't easily double back, the red head made her move towards the penthouse.

She quickly jumped from a nearby rooftop and glided in on her special bat cap, entering through the same window that Catwoman had left through. There she stepped into a room where Jim was sleeping on the couch and Harley was watching Looney tunes next to him. As she made her way closer, Harley turned towards her suddenly, as if she sensed her somehow.

" Batgirl! Your not hurting Mr. Jay this time. This time I'm hurting you!" Harley shouted out as she grabbed her mallet she had hidden next to the couch and charged the girl. Harley brought her mallet down in a heavy swing towards Bat Girl, who quickly dodged to the side and pinned Harley as her monutem from swinging the mallet threw her off balance.

As Harley had been pinned on the penthouse floor beneath Batgirl snarling and about to break out of the hold, Batgirl spoke. "I'm not here to interrogate Jim; I'm here to make amends with him. Batman and Nightwing went too far, and I'm here to make it right." Batgirl whispered into Harley ear, who stopped struggling for a moment.

"Fine, I'll believe yes if you let me up first." Harley requested, to which Batgirl complied, and Harley quickly, once released, put herself between Batgirl and her Mr.J. Batgirl didn't move; she just stayed where she was trying to build trust. "All right, Red, off your not getting near Mr.J armed to the gills." Harley demanded, and so Batgirl took off her utility belt, to which Harley waved her to take more off, not trusting her not to have weapons on her.

So Batgirl was soon left standing in the middle of the room in nothing but her mask and her underwear. "So now can I go and apologize to Jim for the horrible behavior of Batman and Nightwing and try and make amends?" Batgirl said a heavy blush to her cheeks.

"No, you think I'm a dumb hoe? Your buddies broke his fingers with their hands not their tools. So your not getting close without your hand being bound." Harley said as she grabbed Batgirl and pulled her over to where Catwoman kept her toys. "I'm going to make sure you apologize properly to Mr. J." Harley said a mischievous list in her voice that Batgirl wasn't quite sure how to feel about.

How does Batgirl's apology go?
